VR Zone reports:

We have got to know the specs for the upcoming 90nm G71 series already. There will be two models as we have revealed before; the GeForce7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT. However, the performance differences between the two models seem to be pretty huge and we can expect quite a huge price difference too. We have yet to confirm on the number of pipelines on the 7900 GTX and GT but current sources point towards 32 and 24 pipelines respectively.

GeForce 7900 GTX will be clocked at 650MHz core / 1.6GHz memory and has 512MB GDDR3 1.1ns memories onboard while GeForce 7900 GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 1.32GHz memory with 256MB GDDR3 1.4ns memories. We have also heard that GeForce 7900 GTX will win Radeon X1900 XTX in most benchmarks so we shall eagerly wait for the launch on March 9th at CeBIT

Mav's thoughts:

Seems as though the GT will be a 90nm 7800GTX - should clock nicely then. The GTX seem to have hit all teh check boxes at the right time - now is the time to see if 32pipes is better than 48shaders...... countdown to march 9th = T -18 days :O

Nice find :D

Looking forward to the launch and the first reviews coming out... Can't wait to get a decent high end gfx card again, whether it be X1900XT/X or 7900GTX...

The 7900 GT looks like it could be a good buy, especially if its priced below the 7800GTX's...

That's two 7900GTX lined up for the Storm SLI FX60 then. Let's just hope the blocks fit eh?

Thats gonna be the biggest thing for me - My blocks and cards are earmarked for a good home already so I am just hoping that current model blocks will fit, else first runs will be air driven :(

I spoke to Danger Den about this about 3 weeks ago, and they hadn't even been sent reference boards for testing. They had no idea if the design will differ or not, if they dont know I'm guessing a lot of other manufacturers don't know either. We'll just have to suck it and see.

All things regarding this release are being kept under wraps for CeBit - It's unfortuante that reference designs have not been released for such purposes.

I think part of it is due to the time constraints and making sure that there are enough review samples to go around on the day and that stock will be available come the release day.

Oh im hoping i wouldnt have to change water blocks for these :( Hopefully not but time will tell. These cards look like they could end up being pretty good contendors :) Roll on 9th march.........................;)

Confirmed spec:

Geforce 7900 GTX works at 650MHz core and 1600MHz memory. The chip is developed on 90 nanometre marchitecture and has 278 million transistors. The card sports 512MB of 256-bit memory and the chip is significantly smaller than ATI's R580.

The chip has twenty-four pipelines, sixteen ROPs and eight vertex Shaders. It has a total bandwidth of 51.2 GB/s and can perform 1400 millions vertices in second. It has a peak of 120W power consumption. That's a lot for a single card, and you can double that for an SLI system or quadruple it for a four-card configuration.

The slower Geforce 7900 GT features a similar design but comes as a single-slot card clocked at 450MHz core and 1320MHz memory. The card uses the same 256-bit memory but has 256MB only. It has 24 pipelines, 16 ROPs and 8 vertex Shaders. The card will have a peak of 82W power consumption.

Mav's Comments:

120w of power per card :O plus if you overclock it 20% thats 145w of power per card - thats pulling 12amps per card so an SLI draw of 24 amps in total :O

FFS - it's stupid now thats 290w of graphics card draw - the real worry is the ampage it pulls 24 amps is a lot - you need to skimp off two rails that aren't supplying anything to the motherbaord for sure.

Ok now im worried will i be able to run my whole set up inc 2 of these on my pcp&c 510w ? May have to use my akasa 650w to power fans and watercooling and the 510w for everything else :(

But here's the £150 question - is 512MB memory worth the extra and could you overclock by 200Mhz with a good aftermarket air cooler?

Although, nvidia and ATI should start making power supplies and start cashing in I think.

The 512mb on the GTX is probably 1.1ns, so should clock like stink.

Would guess the 256mb on the GT is 1.4 maybe, so wont clock quite as far.

GT looks to be nicely specced, so fingers crossed the price is nice. Pretty much 7800GTX specs :D
