6990 WC

So i have my 6990 now and it is sitting in a box as it emits WAY to much heat in my room. I am going to be purchasing a 6990 water block as well as all the necessary equipment to water cool the gpu. But i am stuck on what water block to buy? I do not want fanboy responses here, but i can not decide between the EK and the Koolance water block. What i like about the EK one is that there is a matching back plate for it, unfortunately they are not located here in america so i will be paying a VERY large shipping fee. my estimate is it will be well over $200 for the block alone and matching back plate.

sense it seems that koolance ships cheaply in america it will only cost me around $170 for the water block, but there is no matching back plate (in fact there is not one at all).

Would i be able to use the stock radeon 6990 back plate on the koolance block?

and which do you recommend and why?

They are a good company, but koolance products are cheaper direct. The koolance one is quite nice looking though. I use one on my 480, works like a charm.

The koolance one is quite nice looking though. I use a koolance block on my 480, works like a charm.

im not going to spend $170 on shipping unless it is absolutely necessary. if it is over $25 of shipping its a no go. koolance also has everything except the back plate and only $13 for shipping for EVERYTHING i posted above.

Also i was thinking about getting the pump/tank first and get one set of barbs and one tube and test the pump to make sure it works. would i be able to test the pump by just connecting the tube from the out and back into the in? ( i will be filling it with water.)

You are aware that watercooling doesn't change the amount of heat that's emitted, just the way the heat is exhausted. If te radiator is still in your room, the room will heat up just the same.

I am no thermal expert but that does not make much sense. my GPU right now is blowing 65 to 75c air. if i get water cooling my gpu will be emitting 30c air. Why would the rad be blowing 65c to 75c air?

again i could be wrong but it doesn't make much scene.

water-cooling is a more efficient way of dissipating the heat created by the CPU or GPU. The chip itself is still producing as much heat as it does with air cooling, it is just being moved away faster and more effectively.

It depends what you're using for coolant, if it is pre mixed coolant it should be changed every six months or so but it shouldn't need cleaning.

And just to agree with what someone else said earlier, watercooling the GPU won't make a massive difference to your room temp as the heat will still be emitted. The water will hold some of the heat mind, maybe 20c or so.

The water (once equilibriated with the room) won't hold any extra heat, it will simply transfer the heat into the room the same. Don't worry about cleaning the loop, just make sure there is enough ethylene glycol to kill algae, and change the coolant every six months to a year.

Can someone answer my previous question tho. that being how can i go about testing the pump? or was what i said good enough? i plan on ordering the pump, tube, and 2 barbs today so i can test the pump in a little loop going from the out to the in.
