5970 - worth it?

As title - is the 5970 worth buying today? It would either replace my 2 4890s or go in a new build for my girlfriends rig.

Too outdated in my opinion. It could probably run some of todays games, like far cry 3, but not maxed out. Providing your not actually going to be gaming with it at all or not very much I'd advise you to get a 7750 or 7770 GPU.

Although I suppose price plays a part in this.

How is it outdated if it's dx11 and has pretty much the same graphics horsepower of a 7970?

Sorry to say it, how the hell can it have the same horsepower as a 7970 ? Just the jump from 6970 to 7970 in my case was to see in fps alot..

I know it is duel GPU, but you take card that have been out in over 2½ years vs a card that have been here in 6 morth ? .. What do you think will win this battle ?

I personally would go with a 7770 or a 7850.. they perform pretty well, I've seen. I'd be pretty happy with one ( personal opinion ).

Not performance wise, just that one is a dual GPU card and one is a single GPU card. I know about the differences between them and the 5970 being about the same maybe better at AF than the 7970. it also eats alot more power... about 300W compared ( cause we still got to this point ) to the 250W of the 7970, and I know that the lower end cards like the 7770 and the 7850 etc performs really well at quite a bit lower power consumption

If he can get the 5970 for a decent price then he should definetely go for it

+1 seumas;)

It´s a very good card! much better than a 7850....for expl. the 5850 its better than a 6850 and a 5870 it´s better or with equal performance than 6870 and this last ones are younger and with a diferent chip!! how can it be posible!?

Here the results compared to a 7950 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/587?vs=550

my 5870 could play bf3 on high at 1920x1080 fine, if you can get a cheap 5970 it should provide plenty of graphics power, i dont know what the dual gpu drivers are like though. if you can get one cheap go for it.

Google the difference in benchmarks... you may slap yourself for that statement.

Yes the 5970 is still a powerhouse for it's age, but in reality it won't stand up to a 7970 in real world situations.
