512 mb nvidia card

yeah, nvidia has been testing the 512mb ultra for quite a while now, and finally companies are starting to make them. theyll be available pretty soon.

problem is that its not worth the money, because there really arent any games out now that even can use 512mb of memory, already normal 6800 ultras have plenty of power for even doom3 and any next gen games.

i wonder what the pricing will be like with the 512mb versions vs the regular 256mb

probly be a sweet card for benchmarks :rotfl:

cant wait for benchies to see how it stacks up to the 512mb X850XT :yumyum:

Should be a sweet card... I may trade in my 6800 GT for a 6800 Ultra if this one ends up being dead.

someone w/ an fx-53 oc'd to 2.8 and 2 6800gt's in sli cant even play the special completely uncompressed mode of doom 3 lol. he said he gets like 7fps. im sure 2x512 mb 6800ultras would handle it tho :worship:

14fps maybe :) Better than 7 thats for sure! Why in the hell would you want to play that mode anyhow? rofl.

That's delicious, have you seen vids of that engine in action? They did some impressive stuff with bump mapping upon the walls.

bleh. Not interested at all. I don't give a fuck about playing at super resolutions and detail. My cheap ass 6600GT can get 40fps in Doom3 at ultra settings, so playing at medium or high settings and 1280x960 res is more than enough. Wow, look at me I get 500fps - big deal, you can't actually get more than the monitors refresh rate anyway. My graphics card beats the monitor refresh rate in CS:S (which is all I play) so I'm happy with what I got.

The technology on the 256MB cards can't properly utilise use all of the RAM already, so whats the point in having another 256 on top???

And is it just me who thinks Doom3 sucks anyway? The graphics really aren't that great (Source is better) and its just stupidly dark. I dig the whole 'spooky' atmosphere, but they just went overboard on the darkness.

Rant over :)

I hate Doom 3, the graphics are AWESOME but the gameplay is a totaly dud.

And also, the biggest drawback right now to the newest games is insufficient memory to buffer large areas with high poly's. Doubling the memory should be a breath of fresh air for games yet to be released.

Ya see, HL2 and the Source engine has ruined the gaming world. Because now, anything without ragdoll deaths is bobbins :p

that uncompressed mode was made for 512MB cards soooo it shld run fine (in theory but as we all no theory is worth crap)

Yeah I reckon games have the potential to be a lot more detailed but they're held back by the lower end systems that make up a large part of the market. I mean the Unreal III engine running on a 6800 (probaby Ultra) wasn't in smooth framerates, not even close from the recording of the engine demo I saw. More power and rams is good. :D

Maybe the video was just dropping frames
