thanks guys for the help

I last looked into SSDs a few weeks ago, so this info might be slightly out of date,
but it should provide a starting point for further discussion and research. Where I
live, these all are around the 150 GBP mark, more or less.

Personally, I have an Intel 520, but in 120 GB. The top contenders regarding
reliability are Intel, Samsung an Corsair as far as I know, but I've read good things
about the Kingston ones as well. The Crucial M4 is no longer the newest drive
around, but it does provide good bang for your buck (although interestingly, the
Samsung drive has dropped below the M4 here).

If I had to buy one of these, it would be between Intel, Corsair and Samsung, but
you asked for five ;)

  • Samsung 840
  • Intel 335 and/or 520
  • Corsair Neutron
  • Crucial M4
  • Kingston HyperX 3k

I bought the Samsung 256gb 840 Pro the other day and can vouch for it's good performance.

You also get £15 cashback with Samsung SSD's at the moment, I paid £180 for it but after cashback it works out to £165.

Here is a Crystalmark bench I did with it.

At the time of purchase, my Sandisk Extreme 240GB was the best compromise between performance and price.

Think i'm gonna get another and run them in raid 0. Not that performance is lacking as is. My system boots into OS X in ~ 5-7 seconds (from boot loader).
