40 degree cpu temp drop! :D

so, i've been monitoring my worringly high cpu temp over the last few days, which peaked at 68oC at one point :o

I turned off Q fan (performance mode) which increased rpm of the fan, dropped the temp down to mid 40's and bizarrely, made the fan quieter! huh!?

Today, i dragged out the much under-used dyson from it's resting place and procceded to clear all the dust build up on all of my fan blades and the block under the cpu fan, and voila 27oC at cpu :D

no, that's pretty much idle, with a few programs running.

i don't have any big games that'll load the cpu. i'll have a look for something that'll hammer it and monitor again.

I thought vacuums were loaded with static and were a bit no-no for cleaning PC's? Compressors/can of air...

Anyway, nice improvement. Now get rid of that stock cooler, get at least an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 (cheap ~£15) and overclock it :)

i've rigged a hoover to the back fan port and use my paintball markers airbottle to clean the computer.. no dust :)

vacuum cleaners probably are loaded with static, but with the dyson the hose is so long the hoover could be in a different post code so it's fine.

instead of the dyson, get urself an air compressor from ebay, they cost about £40, and can keep 80-120psi constant without pressure drop.
