3770k overclock

hey guys! i am new to overclocking so i just have a few questions...

i have a 3770k and went into the bios and gave it a push to 4,5ghz - i left everything at auto i believe so there's probably room for improvement

i booted up windows and it was running very slow and gave me a bluescreen after 3-4 minutes.

i then changed to 4,2 ghz and it's running without any hickups for 5 hours now with prime 95 at 68-75-76-71 (as of right now) - hottest core was at 81 once...

i am using an nh-d14 btw - changed from a h80i which i only had troubles with. (went straight to 95 with prime LOL)

cpu vcore is at 1,2v but had a max of 1,260 and min of 1,188.

should i set it to a static value instead?

you should set the clock to stock and find the lowest voltage you chip will run at, then work your way from there.

auto is a no no here @oc3d

tom did a great guide to overclocking on his youtube channel

also double posting is against the rules you should use the edit button

well, so i'll try to get to the lowest voltage setting and then try and put up the multiplier and see how far i can go and then up the voltage etc. etc.?

pretty much, finding the lowest voltage will keep temps down.

so i am still undervolting it, am doing 0,925 volts and is still stable with 3,5ghz stock clock... is that a good sign? it shows 0,948 in cpuz though. but that's the automatic upscaling, right?

the temps are btw 51-57-61-56 tops at 91,23% cpu/mem usage in occt.

3.6ghz at 1v for me on a 3570k(with LLC i get .972-.992v depending on load according to CPU-Z) so ya yours is pretty good.

well, i can only go 3,6ghz at 1.000 volts, but what i noticed - with all stable versions is that the system is quite un-responsive at start, with 3,6ghz and 1.000 it takes around 1min to be able to start cpu-z. or whatever else. with these settings even the wallpaper takes a minute to load!


would it be more worthwhile to stay at 0.925 with 3,5ghz or go 3,9ghz at 1v?

you said 3.6ghz is slightly unstable at 1v and now you want to for 3.9ghz at 1v? That doesn't make any sense? Why not hit the 4ghz mark and you'll probably get around 1.1V area(thats an average volt for the clock).

sorry for the typo! i meant 3,9 in the first place but i tested it and it's stable at 1,1v. 4ghz works with 1,2v...

Try getting the 4ghz voltage down to as much as possible. I really don't recommend going over 1.3 FYI.
