3770k & H80i - Temps Q

Hi all,

Just a quick question, as I've recently RMA'd a old H80, which was replaced with the H80i. When I attached the H80i - the backplate / screw attachments were really quite loose - so I put some washers to space it further out - as originally it did not sit properly on the CPU.

Now, since doing this I'm noticing that my temps are reaching 75deg @ 4.4 1.208v on prime95 - but, that's only one core, the others are 5deg lower.

Would you say it's sitting correctly, or ? My memory is...terrible, but im 90% sure the H80 previously kept it much cooler?

You'll usually always have a hotter core #0 since it'll be utilized more so in standard applications than the others. As long as the thumb screws are finger tight I can't imagine that's it's unevenly seated on the CPU.
Where did you place the washers? On the back or front side of the pump socket bracket? I wouldn't have thought you'd need to add a washer. In what way doesn't it seat properly?

I'm pretty sure it was the correct mounting equip - the backplate / screws being loose on some motherboards is a "known issue" going by the corsair forums. Most apply washers.

I originally put the washers on as with the pre-applied thermal without washers, some of that was totally untouched and not in contact.

I am actually going to move the fans/radiators to the front of my case (as, i stupidly put the intake at the back, where the two 780 ti's make it nice and toasty >.>) so, when I do so - I will test with the old thermal / no washers to see if it will sit correctly without first perhaps?

Well, that took a long time *scowls at the mail* - I got some GC Extreme paste to replace the stuff I had lying around.

So, I've removed the washers I was using - moved the radiator/fans to the front as a intake and replaced the thermal - This was after doing a quick test with the old thermal to see if it was all in contact.

Without the washers, the backplate is looser, but, once the thumb screws of the cooler are tightened up equally - it seems to sit very firmly - so, washers not needed it would seem.

The end result of all this - MUCH better temps. Idle 25 or so, load with the OC @ 4.4 - max of 50.

This is compared to a max of 72 before.

So, all in all - I'm happy
