3770k Delid succes + fail

I decided to delid my 3770k using the hammer + vice method today. Everything looked good while delidding, no scratches or anything but when I tried to boot up I got a memory error. After some fiddling around with it I found out 2 memory lanes died. Not a very big deal, I guess ill just sell this 4 x 4 gb kit and get a 2 x 8 gb kit.

The temps however look very good. I was planning to use CLU but I thought lets try the Noctua NT-H1 I have left first. Temp drops are over 20 degrees C so I might just keep using this TIM.

Just wanted to share this with you all.

Here is a screenshot. Ambient temps before delid were 27C and after were 30C

Sorry to hear about your memory lanes dying :(

How are you running it now, have you put new thermal past under the IHS and then put it back somehow (using the cooler to keep it on)? Or are you running it without the IHS?

I'll probably delid aswell... Lets just hope I dont kill the CPU or any memory lanes ;) Those temps look good btw and may those memory lanes rest in peace

I removed all the old glue and TIM, sanded the top and bottom of the IHS on a piece of glass because my crappy old vice left marks on it, then I put paste on the die, then put on the IHS using the bracket on the motherboard to clamp it down.

Btw. Does anyone know why it always seems that when delidding goes wrong its always (2 of) the memory lanes that break down?

???

Sanding on glass? Would you care to elaborate?

lol I used the glass as a surface to put the sandpaper on and sand the IHS because (I assume) glass is completely flat. I want the IHS to be as flat as possible to optimize contact with the block of my H100i.

I actually might've bent some pins in the socket, is there a way to find out if its the socket or memory controller without taking everything apart?
