3570k OC?

Hi.

Just built my mate a pc, with a 3570k and a custom loop.

I overclocked the cpu to 4.5ghz, but I'm needing 1.325v, which CPU-Z only says is 1.284 to get stable on IBT. Prime cannot get stable at all however, with 'FATAL HARDWARE FAILURE'...

Have I done something wrong? Temps max at around 80 with fans and pump on reduced speeds

Never known something to be stable on IBT but not on Prime

My pc is fully stable on IBT but it really doesn't like Prime at all. Prime will crash within a few minutes.
God knows why.

Also, what board does he have? Because that seems like a lot of volts for such a clock.
Or, perhaps, he didn't win the silicone

why is the pump reduced? the idea is to get the water flowing, not slow it down..
depending on overcloc of CPU and RAM can fault.
stability testing on many softies can produce many different results. some cat
couldn't get a stock setup to stable in IBT, but prime95 it was good. but he did
RMA a RAM set, so the IBT must have picked it up and he didn't evaluate
the results correctly.

We've only increased the multiplier so the RAM shouldnt be an issue.

The pumps are reduced because otherwise they are unbearably loud if not, and temperatures seem ok with it reduced anyway.

As for stability testing, I have no idea. I dont have days to fiddle with it as it isnt my computer, so I'm just trying to get a half decent OC

your h2o should be much better for Ivey. on air i'd expect this temp. does your friend
have some days to make it right? you built it, he can tune it, right?

Probably yes. The motherboard has been returned now though due to a faulty BIOS chip (we think) so the new ASUS P8Z77 Deluxe will hopefully yield us with new results

Reducing cpu-pll could also reduce temps as well.IB dont need same vcore as SB,therefore reducing cpupll and the overall cpu-powerdraw could help on temps.

If vccio(qpi/vtt) and vccsa(IMC) is on auto these could also be reduced manually in bios,as they also add to the total cpu-power use too,and therefore also temps.
These settings can be set differently on auto by mobo-manufacturer,so maybe you dont need reducing them as much.

i love how your buying all the boards that suck at overclocking xD gd65/55 and ud3 are the best for overclocking on ivybridge

haha, more for features really. We're never gunna be able to get to to massive overclocks anyway due to cooling or something like that, and we dont really need more than 4.5ghz anyway so we dont need a massively good overclocking board. So far this new ASUS P8Z77 deluxe has been a lot better

I feel mean, but i'm glad my chip isn't taking the most volts out of everyone now :P
A question for you; have you tried the Extreme test on IBT?
My PC doesn't seem to be able to hack it one little bit. Pretty much insta-freezes.

haha, it's fine, this is my mates who isnt that bothered. Mine is still the best ;)

How do you mean extreme? We've been doing it on maximum stress level if that's what you mean?

Right click the start button, and prepare to be welcomed into a whole new world of instability :(
At least, that's my experience.
Edit: upon further reflection, it would seem as though the Extreme test works the CPU so vigorously that Windows freezes up, but doesn't crash. As the runs are ending/starting and the load lessens, I am allowed a brief moment of control, just enough to stop the test.
I think I'll stick to the standard IBT, I don't like OS freezes D:

I think that's really weird you need so many volts to get 4.5GHz stable; my 3570K is running at 4.5GHz fully stable w/ 1.18V. IBT gives me a max temp of about 80C, but I only have a crappy air-cooler. Maybe I just got a good chip? I'd fiddle with the settings some more I guess.
