3500+ CPU Cooler

Guys i am in desperate need of a new cpu cooler - as my current cooler shit and the fan is playing up. Its only a stock cooler for a 3500+ amd which means i cant really overclock my pc that much!

atm i have a stable overclock and my proc is running at 2.3ghz - can get it up to 2.4ghz but becomes unstable in CS:S - Max temp is about 52oc when gaming.

I dont know alot about overclocking, just how to change the multiplyer and the processor frequency to get a faster clock.

But what iam really interested is a decent cooler thats quiet and keeps my cpu nice and cool :)

thermalright XP-90, Xp-90c, or XP-120 are extremely good coupled with a nice panaflo high speed fan :)
 
I am using Thermalright XP-120 + AS5 + Panaflo Fan and they are big so make sure to check if it fits in your motherboard.
 
I dont really want any thing to big or any thing that uses a bracket that fits behind the mobo, I quite like the look of the Evo heatsinks but will have a look at the Thermalright coolers!

Btw my mobo is an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe ;)

EDIT: Just realised theres a CPU Cooler sub forum duh! (slaps head) can a mod move it over please ?
 
Hey mate

The XP90/90c/120 wont need to have a bracket behind your mobo: but you do need to replace the standard bracket. There is also an SI-120 which is slightly higher than the XP-120 and therefore fits on most boards. You CAN change the XP-120 while the mobo is installed: but its not recommended (obviously).

I have an XP-120 + AS5 + Panaflo High speed fan and its cooler than a snowmans dangly bits :)

- I know with the big Zalman coolers they say that you should take them off when transporting your PC - i dont really want one that kind of size were i have to take it off when i take my pc somewere :)
 
Not sure :p - theres quite a lot of choice!

quite like the look of the thermalright ones and also really like the akasa EVO coolers - its a tough one.
 
Have you looked into the Arctic Freezer 64 Series. I have the none pro version and have had it for quite a while now. It clocks my Opty 146 to 2.85GHZ no problem and at this speed my cpu sits at 38C.

Definatly a cheaper alternative to other coolers but worth every penny.

i have the xp-120 and an 86cfm panaflow on it coolin ma a64 3500+ venice

and it idles about 38-39c.

under a full load stress test the temp max's out at 52-53c @ nearly 2.6ghz

(i am holdin off on the oc till i get a new mobo and ram)

highly reccomended setup.

Have just been looking at that heatsink - From what i have read it looks great! May consider it - Thanks for that
 
right - still not sure what to buy,

kind of want to order one tonight with all the other crap i need to get - but iam not sure.

The thermaltake ones look pretty good - the Arctic http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Arctic_Cooling.html (very first one)

is prob my fav but iam not sure how well it will do when i over clock it.

Also like the Akasa EVO's but apperntly they are noisey!

Help please!!

quite like the zalman superflowers - have looked at them for ages but always thought they were to OTT but actually i want one!

I've just got a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I am using it with my Opteron146 which has 1.47v through it, and it idles at 26c and is 32c under load. And it's virtually silent!

I used to have an Arctic Freezer(the non pro version). It was very good as well. Didn't run quite as cool, but it was very quiet and efficient for the price.
 
I used to have a CNPS7000B-CU (I seem to get through a lot of coolers!) and it was pretty good I guess. Nowhere near as good as the Big Typhoon in the cooling stakes. It had a controller on it so you could control the speed of the fan to make it quieter(slower) if you aren't into overclocking. The fan went a bit dodgy in the end if I remember rightly and kept making a funny noise which is why I replaced it.
