3000+ Oc.

Ok well i figured since i have this particular board, and i AM on OC3D i might as well do it some more. Im not particularly good at OCing but i was wondering if this was any good. Got a 3000+ A64 S939 Venice from Marklebb a while back and my friend gave it back cause he got a 4000+. So im toying with it. Wanted to know whatcha think. This is on stock cooling.

EDIT: Im not done either, going to keep on getting faster till i reach a wall or temps get too high.

That's quite decent right there, but I bet theres a bit more headroom left in it so keep going!

The highest I've been able to take a 3000+ (Winchester) was 2.8ghz on air, that was a friggin' blast. Too bad I killed that chippy poppin' the IHS :(

Aye that's good work that mate. I found 300FSB pretty hard to get nice and stable, only managing it with some proper top-notch TCCD (how I miss it), an SLI-D and a great stepping 3200+

Uh oh seems i ran into a wall :(.

FSB 290@ 2.61ghz and when i try to go any further i dont clear the CMOS backup.

Im running a DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR.

AMD Athlon64 3000+ Venice 512k

4x512mb Kingston ValueRAM PC2700

XFX 7950GT Xtreme

Im using a RAM divider, 1.45v core , 1.6v chipset, and 2.6v RAM.

Up the voltage to 1.5v, and keep a close eye on the temps. My 3200 managed 300X9 no problem at i think it was 1.55v. And that was on a DFI infinity. But that was under water.

Ok seems 290 and 285 are not stable on 1.45v. I bumped the core up to 1.5 for 295 and it still wasnt working. I have the RAM divider set to "drum roll" 100 LOLs. The RAM is running at a whopping 284mhz right now hahahh. So i know thats not it. Chipset? Any other ideas? Im on stock cooling, so i gotta watch the CV bumpage.

K looks like 280 is stable so far. 2.52ghz stable from 1.8 stock. Pretty good to me. Best OC ive ever done before.

Edit: K did a performance test on 280 with COH maxed. Went up 10FPS!!!

~60 average

136 max

~35min. Freakin crazy lol. I didnt think the speed increase would increase performance that much!

Anyone who hasn't overclocked and does it for the first time I envy you

The feeling is awesome when you relaise performance jumps and you've got a £500 proccy for a whole lot less :D

Well im not exactly a n00b at it cause ive done it before. Its just i dont see the point in spending a whole lot of money on a fast processor then OC it when its already fast enough. This thing though, i got back and actualy spent 50 bucks on so i didnt really care and its doing a great job. Pwning his 4000+ as well :D

The catch here is what im doing with the RAM. I got the divider set to 120 right now for DDR 240 speed, but with the FSB being so high im getting almost around DDR333 speeds with 2-2-2-5 timings. Makes life easier keeping your RAM stock ;)

My past experience with OCing though was my second SocketA system with a 2600+ Barton i got to 2.3ghz from 1.92. Then i got an X2 3800+ that i got to 2.6 with great RAM so, ive got SOME experience kinda. Just luck tbh.

BUAHAH yea right! It wouldnt work at all. Im using 4x512 Kingston PC2700 ValueRAM. Its the only spare stuff i have that i dont care if it goes kapluey. And with the FSB as high as it is im still running it at DDR333 speeds, so unless i lower the FSB back to 200 and have the ram divider on like 180 or somethin i couldnt do it. Can try though!

I thought u might be rockin' sold old school TCCD's but I just now remembered that you already had to divide the hell out of your RAM to get it where it is now.

Ok little update. Ive got some G.Skill value PC3200 in it now and i think if im not doing anything today im gonna try and bust my what was it 285 limit? My goal ultimately is 2.8ghz on stock air. I believe with the higher ram speeds and the divider i was using i can reach it. (This RAM is even worse where speed and timings are concernd)
