3.5" to 5.25" drive bay

Hey guys, I have bought a Corsair C70 case and am going to remove the drive bays so I can place my Corsair AF120 performance fans at the front.

So, I would like to move my data drive (Seagate Barracuda XT) into the bottom drive bay above.

I have found the following adapter

I would like to know if I just need to screw this one into place and then use one of the toolless brackets from the existing C70 HDD bays to secure it in, obviously I want to know how best to install this before buying the adapter.

If you meant ODD then yes, pretty much You screw the hard drive into the bracket, slide the bracket into the case from the front and secure it. Basically like installing a DVD burner.

I may be wrong, but the front of the linked bracket does make me suspect that it would replace the cover of the front panel. Personally, I wouldn't use a metal bracket either cause of vibration and such.

Do you have any alternate suggestions then to secure my HDD into one of the C70 ODD slots?

Since the lower drive bays are 3.5" and have tool-less plastic brackets I just thought I would be able to grab an adapter, screw that into the ODD bay and then slide in the plastic tool-less bracket and then my HDD into that.

No, the HDD itself is 3.5" which is an international standard. Every case manufacturer has their own way of mounting it into the hard drive bays, so you discard that system completely. The drive goes straight into the adapter. Then you put the adapter with drive and everything in it directly into the 5.25" bay.

There is no standard for HDD caddy's, that is at the discretion of the manufacturer so it's unlikely you will find a drive bay which will simply fit the plastic trays made by Corsair. Unless you literally put your HDD cage inside the ODD cage and secure it with something. Not a terrible idea if it fits.

Lian Li make some nice cages which fit multiple HDD's into 5.25" bays. Typically you will find they fit 1 HDD in 1 ODD bay or 3 in 3 however more 3.25" drives would physically fit. Then your into custom fabrication and modding territory, which is quite easy, it just requires some careful thought and planning.

You were right about the front plate being visible outside the case, found a youtube video with it on display.
