290X Or 780 Ti, Strapped for time !

Resident Newb
So I have had the Asus GTX 780 Ti Matrix Platinum *Which now might turn out to be the non platinum version thanks to Asus cocking up the order* pre-ordered with OCUK for roughly 5 weeks now which should be coming in either this coming week or the week after.

Now the problem is that I'm finally moving country in 2 weeks so I don't have the luxury of waiting for vendors to stop sitting on their thumbs.

Originally I got quoted a date that was a lot earlier hence why I pre-ordered it.

If it still isn't here by the 2nd of June I will have to get something else as I leave Europe on the 4th of June.

So which is it, Order the EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition from EVGA's store if I can get actual real confirmation about the pre-order in time *Which I will be using LN2 on when I get the chance as I was going to do with the Matrix Platinum if it arrives in time* or the EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified Dual Bios ACX.

On the AMD side, The Matrix Platinum 290X which OCUK has in stock or the MSI 290X Lightning.

Those are my choices so no suggesting a different card please folks

What would the OC3D community suggest I do in this situation ?

You 2 make a compelling suggestion but if the rumors are to be believed AMD are coming out with the 295x *Not to be confused with the 295X2* mid summer to retake the single GPU performance grown.

No one has the crown. Its so close it comes down to the games that are being played. I don't count benchmarks since they all pretty much favor Nvidia.

Really only one rumor going around.. looked at different sites and all pretty much have the same exact words. Copy and paste FTW.

If you wanted to get the 295x(if it ever comes out) you will have to wait for some crazy LN2 card which would take a very long time to come out.

Well I do want the LN2 option as that's why I was originally getting the 780 Ti Matrix Platinum as me and a friend who enters competitions *Him not me* were going to do my first LN2 session which I was really looking forward to doing with a card that was designed for it and looked awesome to boot but I keep getting messed around with the wrong dates which is starting to badly piss me right off.

I don't mind waiting for something hell I pre-ordered the original Xbox 360 1 year before it came out and happily waited for it as I knew the date it was coming out.

But when I continually get told wrong information by the vendor and the stockist and they keep saying "Oh well it's been delayed again" OR "We don't know if we're getting it in now" OR "I didn't know we we're getting this card in" OR "It could be this week or the week after or the week after or the week after" it all screams a massive bunch of twa*s to me wasting my time while they have my money and not doing their job properly.

Do you mean "Iceland"? Supposed to be a single Hawaii with 4GB of 512 GB/s of High bandwidth memory, from what I've heard it was supposed to be the first of the 300 series but AMD decided they'd do a surprise release this summer...

Info is very limited at the moment and most of it is speculation at this time.

The 780Ti is a little faster than the 290X so that's what I would get. Plus I just really like EVGA cards.

inb4 vlad.

I'd say go for the 290x lightning. More powaaaah. Also I thought it was the card that won the single gpu benchmark for LN2 a while back? I can't really remember but I think it was that

That made me giggle ^_^

I'll have a look at Toms review of the Lightning :)

I would probably end up getting the Lightning card though. Either one is great but even without LN2 or H20 the Lightning is still the better card. Goes against my last post saying the Matrix but just thought about it and realized its probably not worth the money when compared to the Lightning.

To be fair on paper the only difference between the Matrix Plat & the Lightning is 80Hz on the Engine Clock. Also the availability factor.... mmm. Steering more towards the Lightning too but you'd have to live with the yellow.

The yellow is the only part that puts me off.

The Lightning is a super card but so is the Matrix what you need to weigh up is what will you do the most? LN2 or normal use the Matrix performs better under LN2 whereas the Lightning is a better all round performer, so figure out that first question then go from there, hope this helps

Well so far I've compared both cards results from TTL's graphs/reviews side by side and the 290X lightning only gets ahead in 2 or 3 benchmarks the rest the matrix is ahead.

I'll just wait and see if OCUK can get the Matrix to me in time before I move :)

I think the lightning in general is pretty ugly.
I don't find any of the LN2 cards offered to be visually appealing though. Personally i have no interest in overclocking my parts anymore, i find undervolting far more appealing, so i have no clue which card clocks the best. I'd just get some 780ti with a reference cooler and be done with it.
I suppose your best option is to wait for the 780ti matrix platinum to arrive and if it doesn't you can try the AMD adventure. It's not like you play any games AMD cocks up on anyways. (I assume you don't play games from prior to 2008 very often).
