My 24" VA monitor decided to die this morning

(4years old)

So I'm looking for a new monitor as I'm currently on my LAN monitor (Samsung 913N)

I have a few monitors in mind but I'm not sure whether to get a LED backlit panel or not.

Samsung B2430L £155

BenQ G2420HDBL (LED) £147

I've looked around the net and there seems to be some people saying the BenQ doesn't give that sharp text and that it is too bright as to show vibrant colours you have to have it set too bright

From what I've read LED means less power usage, longer lifespan and better black

Acer H233HEbmid £130

Samsung SM2333SW £135

The acer has HDMI also like the look of it

The samsung looks really nice, have seen one irl and it seemed pretty good

I need a monitor which has HDCP so I can plug in my PS3

To be totally honest, I don't think LED back-lit monitors are all too great. They may tout some great things on paper, but in reality, you can't tell the difference all too much.

A lot of people I know like their Acer monitors, and by first-hand experience I can say they are pretty nice. I will no doubt be purchasing an Acer monitor as an upgrade during the holiday season for myself.

I've just ordered the samsung

After looking around I saw the Acer doesn't have a lot of options in the OSD

Also read that blacks are washed out

I completely love my Samsung 913N after playing counterstrike source on it last night

the colours are a lot better than my 24" VA and the whole brightness is really amazing, I had to turn down the brightness ingame for bright maps.

Mostly due to the settings in the OSD.

Text is a lot sharper aswell so hopefully the 23" will be the same and have the same/similar options

I am going to try to revive a 9800 GT 1 GB that I am getting for next to free (hold me off until the next generation), so if I can get that working I am going to sell my 5770 so I can buy a new monitor. My current one does have quite enough real estate for photo and video editing.

What monitor did you just revive?

Having seen an LED, LCD and Plasma from the same brand next to each other, playing the same thing, I can safely say the LED beats both hands down, with the LCD second.

It really depends though, for example, for a room that gets a lot sunlight I would suggest a plasma.

Incorrect, Plasma was the worst because the room was quite bright already, it was infact the worse for sunlight because of the TFT like shiny finish, which LCD doesn't have, and neither does LED if im not mistaken.

Yep, I mixed that up totally. I realized that after I turned off my computer.

And yes, the LED and LCD sets are the best for sunlit rooms that can't be controlled all too well.

that acer you showd is freaken awesome! i used one for a while then i gave it to my father. i have the big brother of your monitor p2770.
