Just looked on ASUS website and theres a new BIOS that says it has support for 22nm CPU's does this mean that my board will accept Ivybridge. I have a p8p67 Deluxe

AFAIK yes. Not sure if anything else is changing.

According to this :-

"Reports are now starting to come in that the Ivy Bridge CPUs will indeed be compatible with the H67 and P67 chipsets, something which should make a lot of people happy"

That's been known for ages.

Ivy Bridge will work on P67 just minus whatever features the new chipset enables.

Yep, Ivy Bridge is 1155 and will work on P67 and Z68 but Intel are also releasing the Z77 chipset for Ivy Bridge which will have a few different on board features but it will still be 1155 socket.

Also, if you are using a P67 or Z68 motherboard with Ivy Bridge unless it's a Gen 3 only the first x16 PCI-E lane will run as PCI-E 3.

IB-E is said to be compatible with the 2011 socket and x79 chipset but as with Ivy Bridge there will most likely be another chipset with features that x79 doesn't have.

Ivy Bridge will still work in the older 1155 motherboards, you just won't have full PCI-E 3 if it's a non Gen 3 board and less features if it's not a Z77 chipset board, same goes for IB-E.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Sorry can you elaborate - P67 board with IB chip non gen 3 board - what speed will the PCI-E be?

Ivy will be 1155 - ignore duggy - it will however bring with it a new chipset......... but the cpu will work on older mobos.

you wont magic pcie lanes from no where. it will be normal pcie2.2

The first PCI-E X16 lane will run at PCI-E 3 because it gets it bandwidth from the CPU.

This is what all the confusion was over when MSI said that Gigabyte were lying about their BIOS update but now Asus and Gigabyte have both said on non Gen 3 P67 and Z68 motherboards the first PCI-E x16 lane will run at PCI-E 3 bandwidth with a BIOS update.

That's unless things have changed since the last bit of news on the situation and I am just going off what has been said up until now.

oops - i meant to say chipset NOT socket

it's been a bad day - queued for car parking space for 30mins, only to be told that it was full, and directed to another, for which i waited for yet another 15mins

...then queued in the bank

...then queued in a shop (game) to buy a new ps3, ONLY for them to tell me that the offers on their website and the prices in-store are completely seperate.

ps3(320gb) + fifa12 = £199 (online)

same bundle in store = £250

i asked the manager - "what if i ordered it online (on my phone) and picked it up from here?"

his reply "it would mess up my stock-take"

my reply "muppet", and left

i am never going to get that time back - arrrrrrgh!

What about the EFI bios situation. Wasn't there something about IB not being compatible with EFI?

I think that has been sorted because the Gen 3 Z68/P67 boards have the same BIOS as the old ones plus there will be a BIOS update for when Ivy is released to add support.

Not 100% sure though, things could have changed, as I said before i'm just going off what we have been told up to now.
