2011 Build (Maybe)

Hi Guys

I am thinking about building a 2011 rig, (Not Deffo yet) I will have £2k to spend.

this is what I have thought of:-

Asus Rampage 4 Extreme (I currently have the R3E and love it, so would deffo get the R4E)

Intel i7 3960X

I would like to replace my 2 x Asus GTX 580's with a single GTX card (Either 590 or 580 Matrix)

Need your advice on the RAM (I have no clue about that)

Will all be going into my Corsair 600T

and i'll get the mounting kit for the Noctua NH-D14 (Unless someone can tell me a better cooler?)

What cooling you thinking of going for? Just a better air cooler on the cpu? I think unless you were water cooling your CPU that mobo is just servere overkill. You won't be using it to its full potential at all so may as well get one of the lower end boards.

Also why bother changing cards? They won't be more powerful than what you have now so you will be essentially downgrading

I will be using the NH-D14

The reason I want the Asus Rampage 4 Extreme is because I LOVE them boards.

Not to sure about the 2 x GTX580's...

But what RAM?

graphics wise it doesn't look like it will be too long till the next generation comes out so may as well wait

ram you can just pick up two sets of dual channel to make quad channel as there isn't alot of quad channel memory out for sale yet or that i have seen

aria has mushkin blackline 16gb for sale at £66 which is cheap! just depends what speeds you want

Scan do a bunch of quad channel kits for about 70 for 16gb I think. Dominator series is always good to go for.

If you just like the board that's cool, go for it. I would just recommend saving the money you were going to spend on graphics cards and buy better cooling. After all this is a website called overclock3d, so may as well get the best cooling so you can...overclock!
