2.1 Speakers under £100 - Gaming/Music

Ok, I currently have a good-ish set of 2.1 speakers but there is not enough mid tones so they sound really empty.
I have looked at a lot of sets and really can't decide between them. Please don't suggest getting ACTUAL speakers and an Amp etc.
That is too expensive for me to go, I would rather have a good easy to set up pair. Since I will most likely be carting off to Uni in a 3-4 years I could do with a decent set until then when I will hopefully have my own place and can actually go the custom sound set up route.

So as long as they have good Lows/Mids/Highs but not overpowering the mids for music, but still good bass for gaming.

I personally don't have an opinion, because I am in the same dilemma as you. Both of these have amazing reviews all over the internet however, and sound great. I am looking to purchase the z523's or get them for Christmas maybe.

Not sure if you can get your hands on them in Scotland but I have a pair of Wavemaster speakers with sub. They cost me only €60,- but they sound absolutely amazing.

Mine are called the MX-3, but they also have a slightly more expensive set called the "moody". Havent heard it in person but I'm assuming that its good, they should still fit your budget

Here's a good set of speakers to minimise table top clutter (not a 2.1 that you're looking for though). A bit on the expensive side, but will do well with a decent sound card. It has great mids, clear highs, and I'd definitely try to tune the bass to your own liking. ^_^

I was looking at Corsairs SP2500 set, quite a little bit over my budget but they seem to be exactly the kind of thing I am looking for.
Anyone tried them themselves?
Reviews are pretty good.

i own a pair of solo 6C's they're insane

going 2.1 will not add any benefits for gaming, i listen to all types of music and my greatest experience has been with electro/dubstep, turning the treble to 2 and bass to 6 and the entire room shakes.

Problem with most monitors is that they create massively realistic and sharp sounds that cause huge amounts of ear fatigue. The 6C's require triangulation between you and the two speakers but dont really harm the ears all too much, my RP6's on the other hand cause my ears to shatter after 1-2 hours.

Gaming products are usually at a quality in which sound production creates a muddy and flat sound that is very listenable for hours.

Never heard so much rubbish. Most monitors are flat in EQ how does a flat EQ cause fatigue?

Yeah, I do have a 2.1 set right now - no way am I backing down to a 2.0 again. And a 2.1 set is great for gaming, what have you been smoking? XD
Battlefield 3 sounds amazing with a sub.

Hence why they are called monitors, they are designed for near flat response for music production and accurate adjustments.

Anyway, if you want music as well as gaming most of my experience with music reproduction as far as the Logitech type computer speaker systems has been somewhere between horrible and lacking the will to live. Have a look around at a bookshelf speaker pair or something similar - adding a sub at this level will simply give you the boom and thump around the 80Hz mark but nothing musically.
