1TB Western Digital black not being detected

I just re-installed Windows 8 after playing with SteamOS for about half an hour but for some reason my storage drive isn't being detected in Windows. It shows up in the BIOS, I have installed the latest chipset drivers and such, checked in disk utility and not showing up there and even tried diskpart and listing the physical drives and doesn't show up there either.

Tried different cables and SATA port to no avail. If anyone has any ideas I am willing to try them.
 
(Don't know if this applies to Windows 8, but I had to do it recently on Windows 7).

Have you tried formatting the hard drive through disk management? Before I did this, the second HDD wasn't recognised when I installed Windows 7.
 
The only drive that shows up in disk management is my os drive. I will go through windows setup again and see if it shows up when you do a custom install and select the destination drive.
 
Did you scan for new hardware, or a similarly named option? The extent of my help pretty much ends here I'm afraid, it's hardly my area of expertise and my drive showed up automatically in disk management, just not in Windows explorer.
 
Yeah there were two options. Refresh drives and scan or something like that. Thanks for your help anyway, Remmy.
 
I posted in the FML thread, but here's my post for convenience:

Go to Device Manager -> Right-click on Disk drives and select Scan for hardware changes and see if the HDD shows up. If it does, it should also be visible under Disk Management.
 
I tried that too but still only showing my os drive. I just hope it's a bad installation of windows due to my gpu not being detected after os install.
 
Problem solved, it now shows up in device manager. So I went into disk management and saw it was there, right clicked on it and selected import foreign disks and it appears in Windows explorer.

Oh. Probably a dodgy cable or loose connection. It might be a good idea to use another SATA data and/or SATA power cable.

Haha, how weird. Glad you've got it sorted. Anyway I'll remember to give that as a piece of advice to the next person who has this problem ;)

I'll see how it behaves tonight then go from there. I have spare SATA cables which are still in a sealed bag. I'll use them tomorrow to be on the safe side.
