1st attempt at lapping

I had an old processor lying about from an update and decided to lap it, mainly for fun. It took me 2 hours solid because it kept scuffing badly on the last sheet, so i had to start from the middle again. . .annoying.

Hey bud, i would love to say good job but tbh i cant see the bloody thing withouth sitting on the other side of the room. You need to resize your images, you can only upload 1 at a time when resizing , messed up somewhere, so resize, add, resize, add etc.

Looks good from what i can see though.

I once lapped my Pentuim D CPU .. and it saved me about 4C which for me counted as Free Cooling!

By the way, good lapping!

Wow that's great lapping! IMO you wouldn't know it was your first try, it's pretty much mirror perfect! Good job! Now tell us what temps you get!

can't remember what my old temps where, so would probobly be ponitless. Would also have to take my cpu out of my pc to do it, long story short, cba

The mirror shine isnt necessary as technically once its flat and down to a seriously low grit then you wont get any better temps, but i like what youve done now i can see the pics properly.

As a rule I go down to a level where you can read normal size text in the reflection.

The difference in performance between mirror finish and a matt finish depends largely on the thermal paste used. A mirror finish and CLLP would yield better temps that a matt finish with CLLP, but a matt finish with AS5 would be just as good as a mirror finish with AS5.

The best temp drop obtainable is 100% perfect mirror (and i mean flawless) finish on IHS and block with no thermal paste whatsoever

Well done on the lapping job. I've had a celeron that was so concave I wore through the metal around the outer edges before the middle was free of nickel
