18x Burner will only Burn at 4x

Hi All,

after a bit of advice as it is something i have never come across before, i bought myself a samsung 18x Sata DVD Writer (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=606578)

I am using Vista Ultimate at the moment but i cannot seem to be able to Burn a DVD any quicker than 4x, (the discs are 8x BTW) i have tried using nero and the vista burning software but no joy.

the firmware on the drive is the latest.

any advice would be great.

no, they are just standard 8x DVD-R's

i have tried 3 different types of disc so i dont think it is that causing the issue.

a lot of generics and not so premium brands all use El cheapo Dyes in the disk, usually the same el cheapo dye and if that dye and your dvd-r dont get along it could affect a LARGE range of on-shelp medium you can use and the maximum writing speeds.

Try a [SIZE=-1]Taiyo Yuden[/SIZE]dye based disk (they are the shin-etsu of Optical Media Dyes) - trail |CDR-Zone for a list|
