Hello
I am having a dilema with my planned X58 build. I've built PCs in the past but not an X58 one... and i've not had to delve into ram timings much in the past.
Basically my new system will be as follows:
Asus P6X58D-E
Intel I7 960 - probably overclocked at least to 4GHz
2GB 6950 Graphics
Seagate Momentus XT / OCZ agility 3.
1000w PSU (for upgradability)
My RAM choices are slightly limited because i really want a Noctua NH-D14
Here are my current choices... (All are compatible with NH-D14)
1. Kingston HyperX Genesis 12GB 1600MHz 9-9-9-27, 1.6v, £80 (AWESOME PRICES)
2. Kingston HyperX Genesis 24GB 1600MHz 9-9-9-27, 1.6v, £160 (Still AWESOME PRICES)
3. G.Skill Ripjaw 12GB 1600MHZ 7-8-7-24, 1.55v, £186
4. G.Skill Ripjaw 12GB 2000MHz 9-10-9-28, 1.55v, £173
My main dilema is how much real life difference will i get from the more expensive G'Skill RAMs with either better timings or better frequency...
Is the extra timings worth the double price on the Kingston?
Should i just get the 24GB of cheaper ram or is the better timings/speed worth more.
Considering my wishes to overclock... would one be better than the other?
My plan was to try and keep my BCLK no higher than 200... so i should be able to maintain stock memory frequencies with 8 or 10 multipliers while having room to go anywhere around 4GHz or higher if it will let me.... I've seen some around 4.4GHz but all depends if i get a good one... 4.8GHz would seem to be the absolute limit for my plan (5GHz with turbo... but i dont think even a NH-D14 will pull that off)
