1366 Socket Random Restart - Socket Warp?

Hi guys,

So I have been struggling with a random restart and stability problem for over a year. It seems I can't seem to fix it short of new mobo.

I have tried just about anything and everything (a few I'll list here but Ive done more):
- New PSU
- Mem Test ram + swap ram
- Update bios + switch bios
- Temperature is good + New Coolmaster 280L just in case
- Under-clocked
- New SSD and win 7 reinstall
- I checked all my switches with multimeter (turns out restart button was no good but didn't fix my problem)
- Striped cleaned and reinstalled mobo and CPU

So by now you must say well why so stubborn on changing the mobo since you've changed everything else? Two part answer 1)I'd love to find a x58 mobo for under $350 AUS the price here is ridiculous for them also 2) I love the 1366 platform a lot and don't see much advantage going to 1150 with my workload.

The restarts are random, no looping though. Load is also random. Only consistent thing is when the ambient temperature is higher there is more of a chance for it to happen.

That has lead me to believe my socket has warped (apparently a problem with 1366 due to manufacturing error). I cannot tell that it has warped even with a straight razor on the board.

If anybody has had a similar problem I would "love you long time" if you can tell me what the f*** is going on.

Cheers Guys
Milo

Well if you can go without a mobo for a short time I would suggest taking it to a hardware technician who can stress test the motherboard for you and determine if and where the fault is with it. Most likely they will have their own CPU so if the motherboard checks out ok, perhaps its the chip that is faulty?

Option 2 would be to stop being stubborn and start saving for an upgrade ;)

Well you see when I disconnect some fans from the mobo I find that there is a smaller chance of it restarting. Furthermore I also know that with the 1366 chip set a lot of thing were crammed onto the board because the chip didn't have as much features as the chips now.

Therefore there is a lot of components on the board thus more chance of a part failing.

I can deduce that because the power comes from the same rail it might be that all together the signal might be fuzzy or distorted due to something being faulty board and the fans just push it over and the PSU restarts.

I don't really want to sent it to a shop because the cost here for something like that is immense.

I think it might be time to give AMD a shot.
