1155 or 2011

someone asked me what to do take an 3770k or 3820, and i never really looked at that so i went on the internet and quickly read some forums.

basicly what they said was that the only good point about 2011 socket with 3820 is that you can upgrade to an 39x0k serie later on, but if your not planning on doing that go for the 1155 with 3770k becaus that can be overclocked and performance wise is about the same..

though i want to know your opinions about this

If he needs the extra core for rendering, he should get a 3930k. Other than the extra cores I can't see any benefit of 2011, who spends £200+ on a cpu first and then upgrades to a £350 cpu of the same platform later, a total waste of money imo.
So either 3770k or then a decent 2011 cpu in the first place.

Well back in the day when it was 3820 vs 2600k there was basically nothing to split them apart - both quad core hyper threading Sandy chips. With IB out to replace the 1155 now though the 3770K is slightly better.

There are a few reasons to go 2011.

You want a cheaper way to get 32GB of RAM (8x4GB)
You need 64GB RAM support
You need six processing cores

If you don't need any of that, go for 1155. I notice you mentioned the 3820. That is as you know a Quad Core processor so theres not really much point going LGA 2011 just to go with a Quad Core it would cost you more money for slightly less performance when you could go 1155 with a 3770K

Going down the 1155 route would probably make more sense, the only reason I have 2011 is because I won the mobo. After all, SB-E was just meant for a small group of people who wanted to bench it or go for performance K CPUs and stuff.

I see the 3820 as a little redundant considering the boards are more expensive, and it has basically the same performance as the 3770k, but the 3770k can be overclocked better
