I am coming from an ASRock 4yr old board and an AMD Phenom II x4 9xx CPU

I want to go ASUS/MSI or Gigabyte this time, and want to buy an i7 Haswell chip (cause why not, and cause the mobo and CPU need the most mileage IMHO)

My proposed budget is 250 for a mobo, <300 for CPU and I'm assuming I'll buy some memory to start with (at least 8GB, prolly 16GB leaving room to go 32GB)

Any pros/cons to go one brand over another?

Thanks!

Asus motherboards will be good but the price/performance ratio will likely be less. Also their mid range boards are gold and ugly at the mo

I have! and it is a strong contender... Right now I just bought a GTX 670 FTW (upgrading from my radeon HD 5770) and am experiencing lag, which I believe is coming from my 4yr old mobo/cpu/ram... SSD is being used, so the bottleneck is likely in the cpu/ram.

I'm a month or two away from buying, so perhaps the haswells will come down a couple bucks as well...

In those two months a new motherboards be released out likely, I think it'll be better to judge then, when you are ready to buy :)
