Hi

If my motherboard says: CrossFire: x8, x8 mode; single card: x16 mode does this mean that my single ati 4870 will run no better if i had crossfire 4870 or will i see improvements from having the two in crossfire rather than the single card.

Please Help

Thanks

you will see an improvement in games that allow crossfire. But a defeciet in games that dont.

I am not too sure if you would need a full lane for that card. If you dont then the above wont matter as much.

It's kinda like 2 steps forward, 1 step back. If you're going for Xfire then I suggest you get another board with at least 2x16 speed PCIe lanes.

if you look it up on google, it will say that it doesnt make much difference at all. it might affect the frames per second by about 5. in crossfire it will be miles better than just having 1, think about it, 2 card put together better than 1? the bus lane speeds barely affects it. Sprento, i can safely say that by you suggesting to get another board is a very bad idea unless its alot cheaper than the one you have. obviously if you did have lots of money then you should get a board with 16x but if you dont, then dont bother.

8x bandwith is more then enough and then some for a 4870 card. Don't worry about it and pick up another HD4870 and pop it in the crossfire will be killer! You're frames should boost in just about all games anywhere from 30-80%.

Just make sure your power supply can handle the laod of the second card.

There is no card currently that uses more then 8X bandwith other then the GTX295 and HD4870X2 but even less then the GTX295.

thanks for the info i will buy 2 4870s when i have the money at the moment just getting one as im strapped for cash.
