Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

Found a Ryzen 7 3800x in stock and was able to order! Should be here by Thursday. Still need to decide on RAM and I have heard nothing about the ROG Crosshair VIII Impact board from ASUS.

Keep us posted dude. I'm between a 3800x or 3900x at the moment.

Just bought one of these second hand on ebay. Only a year old as the guy was stepping down to ITX and could only use an SFX PSU

It's a beautiful bit of kit and still 9 years of warranty left (I checked, it's transferable)

Same on the Impact board. I didn't start out wanting that board, but now I do! I'm guessing it's coming quite a bit later.

I really hope not!! It’s weird there’s not been a word about it. The product page for it on Asus’ website hasn’t changed either.

RasPi4 and external HDD enclosure, for a budget media server. :P

It's now running pi-hole, lancache and a samba share like a champ! Two of those inside docker, got lazy with lancache and just ran it on bare metal as the official containers weren't ARM compatible.

New 6TB ultrastar to replace my old 1TB black. The 4TB drive is for my parents pc which had a WD 1TB green fail.

I just did something, something I've only done ONCE before, something I've attempted MANY times, in decades of PC building. Last time I did this, it did NOT end well. I just bought a motherboard, and it WASN'T Asus (*gasp*):

EVERY time I try a non-Asus board, I get burned. EVERY time. Please nerd gods, hear my prayers! I wanted the Crosshair 8, I really did! But they didn't have it in stock! And there's this thing called "patience" that I don't have when I get new toy urges! Please don't hurt me! Or if you do hurt me, hurt me within the next 30 days, so I can exchange this thing for a CH8! Amen!

Actually you know what I think you might be alright this time :)

Nice! I'm thinking of getting the 4 to upgrade my Pi TV but I'm holding on for whether there's any performance gains on RetroPie. I'm praying for improved N64 if anything.

Why is it that everyone goes 3900X over 3700X?... I thought (along many others) that the 3700X would be the most popular and therefore would be more 3700X builds out there, now it looks more like 3900X builds is coming?

That's easy: most of us Ryzen guys already had 8 core CPUs from previous generations. I have a 1700 in one rig, and a 2700x in the other. So buying another 8 core would have been a much smaller upgrade.

The other things are availability and confusion. You can't find a 3700x anywhere, and the fact that there are TWO new 8-core variants with different TDPs is going to confuse a lot of people when they DO become widely available.

Because even at £499 the 3900x is both cheap and Uber powerful.

Yeah there's no doubt the 3700X is significantly outselling the 3900X, if you look at the Amazon best sellers for CPUs or similar sources, the top 10 best sellers are all 8-core or 6-cores(With a 4c in there)up to the 12-core 3900X in 10th, a long way off the 3700X in 1st. But ofc in an enthusiast community like this you're never going to get a representative view of mainstream purchasing patterns.

What exactly do you mean with this? And is there a big difference in the power efficiency? Between the 65W and the 105W?... As in Linus video, it was basically no difference at all, which makes me wonder what is the point of the lower 65W TDP really for?.

Ah, gotcha ;)

If there were no difference, why would they release two 8 core chips then? I suspect there will be a decent difference, and quite a bit more overclocking headroom on the more expensive part. Overclockers like me don't care about power efficiency, ever. We care about performance and OC potential, and I suspect the 105W part will be able to be pushed farther. But that's speculation on my part. It will be interesting to see OC testing on those parts.

That's what I'm hoping for. I could have purchased the 3900X, but I really don't need it as much as I wanted to talk myself into it.

Yeah I think many were waiting to retire their Sandy Bridge rigs so the 3700x is a huuuge upgrade for them.

Any one else on Ryzen? not so much really.
