A Humble Request for Advice!

Hey Guys, I've been thinking of upgrading from this very aged system I have (Core 2 Quad Q8300 - 4GB 800MHz - GT120), which I've been using for very light gaming, and work. I'd like to have the PC ready by February though, and I'm stuck on which platform to go with. My work-load will be light to medium gaming at a maximum of 1080p, with some video editing and game recording (I'd like to post some commentary on to YouTube in my spare time.) I would like to know, should i go Intel or AMD? I hope to go with the 7850 or 7870, and my upper limit is about £700 - £800. I don't really want to spend more than £350 on the motherboard/cpu/ram bundle, so i can ensure i get a decent case. i already have an OCZ ZS 750W power supply at hand to use, and an optical disk drive for DVD's and such.

I gladly welcome any input!

To sum up, as i realise the post is a bit tl;dr inducing:

I have an old system. I want to upgrade. Intel or AMD? £700 - £800 budget. Medium gaming, Medium Video Editing.
Parts Advice please? ;)

i've never seen dabs.com, so i can't honestly say wether or not to trust them as a distributer. The kit isn't bad, but the ram could use a small upgrade for a kit including a i7 as well as the board could use some upgrading as well. your system is only as good as the motherboard you're plugging up to especially if you are looking into overclocking. I would recommend a 3570k, unless you are doing a video per day of a length longer than 10 mins, video rendering/editing will be just fine on an i5. MSi MPower is a great board option, and corsair vengance 1866 8GB kit would be good for ram.
the 7850 would be a good card if you aren't in larger resolutions than 1080P, although if your budget allows, the 7870 would always be a better upgrade.

Intel 3770k
MSI Z77 mainboard, a variety of solid boards to choose from in varying price ranges.
Corsair or G.Skill DDR3 ram, at least 1866Mhz
Your optical drive needs to be SATA, because Z77 no longer supports PATA. but they are very cheap these days.
Samsung SSD for boot drive, Western Digital HDD for storage.

Either a 3570k or 3770k depending on your needs
MSI Z77A GD65
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
HD 7870
Crucial M4 128GB SSD
WD Caviar Green 1TB

And the case I will leave up to you

Disclaimer: I have never made my own PC before, so please try not to bash me too hard on my recommendations. On another note I need to make an intro thread >_>

Edit: Found better HD, edited prices and URLs accordingly.
