Start of a windowmod! OLD nice hardware must be seen!

This kicks so much ass for all the right reasons

Keep it up, can't wait to see that old box get some paint !

This really brings back good memories for me. When I worked running a PC shop some guy came in saying he was going back to the USA where he was from and did we want to buy his rig cheap. My boss said "No, we don't buy PCs" but something inside me told me to take down his number.

I phoned him out of work and went round his house and paid him £75 for his PC. When I took the side off I couldn't believe it... 3Dlabs Oxygen 32mb with two Voodoo 2 cards in SLI :o

He must have spent thousands on it.

Yes, it must!

This gets me all nostalgic; I've been wanting to do something like this for a while but never had the time. And now that I do I've spent most my money on a newer rig (or rather I'm still spending  ). Ah well, priorities

I'm waiting for better weather so I can paint the cases in my workshop. It is just to cold for now. But I made allready space for it in the workshop!

AWESOME  This week I gonna pickup some donated hardware (Complete Rig in pieces like this one) + lots of harddrives videocard nics soundcards floppy zip cd dvd drives. And there is a 3Dlabs Oxygen 32mb in the stack of hardware!!!

How is your experience with the 3Dlabs card? Is it worth trying it in a system?

alpenwasser on this system I spend no money! Gaming can be cheap! For me finding the parts for low prices or free is just part of the fun! :)

At the time I got the Oxygen it was worth about £450. The only other card on the market at that time with 32mb was the Geforce 2? and it was about £500. Of course back in those days I didn't use frame counters but the games I played flew along (Midtown Madness, Motocross Madness, Half Life etc).

3Dlabs were UK based too so I used quite a few of their cards as it was a great way of getting amazing OpenGL performance for less than consumer cards.

Cool I will try the card maybe in the abit BP6 when its recapped!

I found a new Asus p3b-f motherboard for my retro rig.because it is not 100% stable. I found this board on a local ebay. I paid 10 euro including 6.75 euro shipping :D

Awesome.

I had a 5500 PCI. Got it in a bargain bin at PCworld for £99 which was piss cheap ar the time given it had a launch price of £250.

How much did your whole voodoo rig cost you to build now?! I always wanted a rig that was released before I was born xD

The P3-500 rig was 10 euro for motherboard cpu mem and 25 euro for the 2x Voodoo2

The P3 1ghz was free and only 40 euro for the Voodoo5

So 35 and 40 euro

1999 mate! and I'm proud ;)

Christ. Just FYI the Voodoo 5500 was one of the first cards ever released that used SLI. If you look closely at the pic you can see it has two tiny heatsinks on the GPUs as there are two of them :)

Nvidia adopted it when they bought out 3DFX and revived in a few years back.

My biggest tip for a retro machine ask around for parts instead of buying everything. There are a lot of high end parts laying around. Most people don't want to throw them away but if you ask you might get them for free!

One of my dads friends is high up in some computer firm that deals with hardware problems old and new, they usually have a lot of old parts just knocking about so I'll tell him what I'm doing and I'll see what I can get.

Btw I saw a 1GHz coppermine CPU for like £6 on eBay along with a MSI board for £6 are these decent prices? The motherboard was a MS 6309 v.1 BTW.
