I really hope this doesn't happen. Without a competitor for Nvidia in the desktop graphics department, things won't go well...

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest seeing as their CPU's are lagging way way behind and their whole company is seen as "The budget corner" and Nvidia having over 76% market share isn't helping them either.

Their new products need to sell seriously well for them to not go down the bankruptcy route.

You could kinda say this about other companies too.

I think that Apple might buy AMD.

Apparently Samsung were looking at buying AMD.

IMO Nvidia does put FUD out about AMD too.

There are way too many Fan boys/girls out there

They won't go bankrupt.

Before bankrupcy is even a option someone will 'lend' them a hand so to speak whether its buying into the company or providing massive injection of funds!

Yes AMD is too big to Fail, That is why i'm thinking Apple may buy them

Won't happen. If AMD partner up with another company or change their name in any way, Intel have the chance to sue the holy hell out of AMD due to the termination of the Cross license policy in place between them. without that agreement in place, they can fight over patents and technology. At the moment its a kind of mutual forgiveness.

same applies if Intel sold up or changed their name, AMD have the right if they wanted to sue Intel on patent infringement etc. This is why AMD are a bit stuck in what to do, and why Samsung were interested but never got in on the action.

The only thing they can do is what MrKambo suggests and accept injected funds with promise of some kind of return.

It's a shame.
I also thought that Samsung might try something with AMD since they invested so much in their chip making facilities recently.

Well, i hope something will go AMDs way because it won't be good for market to have only one big manufacturer.

Thumbs up for AMD

Very true but as an owner of both AMD and Nvidia hardware I've not been "wowed" by AMD since the 4870 came out in 2009.

As an owner of both I personally fail to see what makes Nvidia the 'great' company people talk about. Nvidia do the better drivers for more than one card is really the only thing I can think of. For a single card solution, I think AMD are better than most people give them credit.

Apple will give them funds in return for bespoke gpus/possibly bespoke zen based cpus should they go bankrupt imo.

They should also receive a boost in a bit of cash as the new macbook pros use AMD GPUs. Apple want to use OpenGL for alot more things now. Apple is loaded and wants a GPU company that it can have quite a bit of control over (for their own uses, as opposed to ruining the PC side of things).

They don't have any debt maturing until 2019, so they should be fine until then at least. "Analysts" have been predicting AMD's bankruptcy for a long time now.

Their finances are not good right now and haven't been for quite some time now. Next year when Zen hits will tell a lot though.

Ya the debt won't mature until 2019 like Zoot said. I read up on their financial report a while back when it came out. They won't go bankrupt. By then the console yields should be so great that they should be in a much better spot than they are now. Consoles alone won't save them though.

No wonder their finances are not good cause there are too many Fan boys/girls on the internet buying everything that Nvidia that feeds them.

Yes i have fallen into that trap too.

All AMD needs is someone with big money, most preferrably Bill Gates (but won't happen because charity) to throw a couple of billions in order to start innovating again (and hire a better Marketing team FFS)

It's all Nvidias fault with their proprietary tech. AMd actually said mantle will become open to everyone and Nvidia said we don't need that. Freesync is another example. There's to many Nvidia fanboys in the world. People think there's not that many and they only a small market but I don't think so. Yes AMD doesn't have the best drivers and so on but we all need to change. If AMD goes bankrupt we all will suffer even if you Nvidia fanboy.

Another thing about Nvidia what I heard is they nerf the performance of kepler and lower to make Maxwell look better. and then the 3.5GB memroy thing they lied about. This is just bs but no Nvidia is king and best and AMD sucks. I'm running r9 280x crossfire and it's awesome in most games. The games I struggle with Nvidia also struggles with. People tend to think you have less issues with Nvidia but that's not true. It all depends on the game.

Poeple forgot about the Driver that cause so many users artifacts and also they had a driver where the fans didn't work so yeah still Nvidia is king..lol what a lame thing to say. I bet with dx12 coming and HBM they might pull a lead again but if your a fanboy your a fanboy no matter if amd get best smoothness or best frames it's will not change a thing.

Yeah I must say I can't see this happening.

Not if Zen is even half decent. I'm really looking forward to that :)
