That's quite a different scenario though.
Physx was originally done by a company called AGEIA and was VERY small, Nvidia bought them out as we know and Physx is featured in a tiny amount of games.
AMD have their own version of G-Sync that works exactly the same way so that isn't a point of contention either.
DX12 which is a HUGE feature and the basis of every future game that both AMD and Nvidia are both going to use and if suddenly only parts of the actual API worked with AMD hardware, Well that would result in a long drawn out court case which no body wants and would tarnish Microsoft's rep.
By all means have exclusive features like Physx for Nvidia, TressFX for AMD etc... but when parts of the actual API are made to run better or only on specific hardware that's when things can get slippery.
If Nvidia had their way Physx would be in everything and would have been the killer app they were praying it was. It wasn't.
DX is an API, so therefore if Microsoft write it they can do what they like with it I would imagine.
I didn't say make things that run better. That's not what I said. I meant features that Nvidia don't have and then place emphasis on those features. You know? rubbish like Physx and so on. If Microsoft owned AMD they would be well within their rights to make such "killer apps" and there's nothing Nvidia could do about it apart from create their own API (like AMD did with Mantle, look how well that went...).
AMD could, for example, come up with a lighting method and make it hardware. Then support it fully in DX12 only make it run like crap without that supporting hardware (you know like Hairworks, Physx and so on). However, if they made a good few of those features..
Normally I would not wish so much bad on a company but I hate Nvidia and I hate what they have done over the years. They've peed off an awful, awful lot of people and companies. They were so arrogant to Intel Intel basically stopped them making motherboards by refusing to license them sockets for Intel processors. And it just goes on.
