2010 GPU in a 2021 rig?

I know this is going to be a stupid DUH kind of question for most of you but I am new so bare with me.

Looking at getting to work ordering parts for a new and my first build and some of the cards I am interested in are out of stock or just overpriced right now so I would rather just wait on that until they become more available and prices settle down just a bit but at the same time my old pc, though it has been a champ, is standing on its last leg, and I can not depend on it.

So I was thinking, hell, my old GPU is still working great, maybe I can go ahead an gather all my other parts, get her put together then just pop in my old GPU in the new rig to hold me over until I can get my hands on a new GPU.

I am just wondering if this will work or not, I am aware only certain chips work in certain boards chipset compatibility, size, and all that. But am not sure if anything has changed with the GPU slots on motherboards from 2010 to now, same pin count? same slots?

My old GPU is the AMD 6950 HD running on my gigabyte x58A-UD3r mobo.

Will my GPU still plug and play in modern boards? and if so, will I run into any other issues other than fit? will the newer mobos/bios reject or not allow the card to run? Any software issues that may take place, I know AMD has not put out any driver updates for my card in years.

I do not need to be able to run any modern games or game at all until I get a new GPU but I would like to still be able to use the rig to do my usual net surfing, watching videos, studying and work for now.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

fun fact.. My current 10 year old rig that has been worked to death and been so reliable all these years was built by no other than Mr. Tom Logan

Works 100% fine. Anything PCI-E is a-OK. And 6950 has functional W10 drivers as well, so you get acceleration as well.
