Well for starters make sure you got some proper cooling, and a proper PSU. If so, then you could start increasing the multiplier bit by bit and test. Go for 4GHZ, and test. Make sure to come back with results. Also it would be good if you'd post your rig specs too so we know what we're dealing with

Is this your first time overclocking? if yes, make sure you follow my instructions above... (Go for 4GHz on stock volts using the multiplier and stress test then come back with the results ...stable/unstable... and we'll take it from there.

No no no! First rule of overclocking! USE THE BIOS! Go to the BIOS and raise the multiplier to 40 (20x200FSB=4000MHZ). Never use OC utilities for CPU overclock!

Agreed. Stick to the BIOS and stick with stock voltage and see how far you can push it by ticking up the multiplier only. Download and install OCCT too as its the best stress tester IMO because it has all the monitoring utilities right there with it. One stop shopping.

Once you set a speed, try to run 10 minutes of OCCT. If it passes and your temps don't exceed 61C them bump the core speed up another notch and repeat. When you crash, up the voltage a tick. When you hit the point where you can't stay under 61C temps then you've hit your wall.

Once you think you've got it, you'll want to run OCCT for a couple hours at least to make sure it is stable for 24/7 use.

Once you get your best OC, then we'll then your attention to the CPU/NB amr HT Link speed as they can give a decent boost in performance too.
