We need to locate some LN2 on the cheap. BOC and Cryoserve are fine to buy from, but over time will cost a fortune. Does anyone know of someone who might have access, perhaps befriend someone at a University?

The reality is in order to get some global points at the moment, you need a very decent 2600K than can go past 5.8GHz where there is a less than 1% chance in finding one. You can use Phase or DICE for that so it isn't so bad. However the other option is paying an absolute fortune on LN2+980/990X+RE3+Elipia Hyper RAM. Both combinations are good for globals in SPI, PiFast, wPrime with regard to the CPU benchmarks. Or you can mod a Commando and LN2 a Celly D for CPU-Z.

So if we can source some LN2 from somewhere, were one step there. Otherwise its just going to be about hardware boints on DICE which is fine, but you'll always have that niggling thought at the back of your mind that you could double your boints with LN2 and your wasting time and money on the chips.

Well they have shed loads of the stuff. So by having a friend who works with it, then you can get them to dispense you some.

Damm that is pretty exspensive for ln2

We pay ~60 punds for 90 liters of ln2 and 20 kg of dice here in Denmark.

And we only pay 38 pence per liter ln2 if we order a 230 liter tank.

I tried in uni today....annnndddddd they basically said there is too much hassle involved in training me if I'm not going to use it as part of my degree.

Hmmm next is to figure how I can get LN2 into a engineering geology degree

you could try and say you want to test a theory on how the cold effects the stability of the ground soil/rock.

maybe claim your thinking about how we can build in the antartic once the ice has melted?

real question is how your going to get repeated samples to take out in the field xD

CHEAPER LN2!

This from Mansfield Cryogenics Ltd.

However just to confirm that we deliver to the Manchester area every 6 weeks currently, to provide up to 50 litres of LN per delivery every 3 weeks is £640.00 per annum, every 6 weeks is £370.00 per annum and every 12 weeks is £290.00 per annum. Dewar hire is as described below.. 50 litre is £50.00 per month, 35 litre is £35.00 per month and finally a 25 litre is £25.00 per month .. again all costs are excl.VAT. We can of course offer a 3 month trial on any of these combinations ..we don't charge any extra for this. Some of the team from Overclockers have enquired whether we have any second hand dewars ..these do come up from time to time ..currently we are looking at some 37 litre dewars ..we are currently testing them to see if they are OK, I only raise this to see if you may be interested in this area.

So for instance. I know that I'm not going to LN2 each month, or even every two months. 3 months sounds about right. For all the other kit, DICE will be enough. So every 12 weeks for LN2 supply, it will be £29 Inc VAT p/month for up to 50lt. Plus say a second hand 37lt dewar at a guess of £30 p/month, thats approx £60 p/month for 37lt every 3 months.

Cheaper than BOC i guess!

It would be easier to find a decent dewar and just pay for the LN2. £29 Inc VAT p/month for 50lt every 12 weeks isn't half bad!

Bit of news on the 2nd hand Dewars..

Dear Tom

Apologies for the delay in replying to you ..firstly the cost of the dewars

.. these are £150.00 each , they are second hand but tested by our engineers

and checked as operating effectively ..we obviously can't maintain a

warranty for them however.

In terms of payments .. the monthly payment system is operated for GP

surgeries (for obvious reasons with the current state of play within the

NHS) primarily, we haven't finished testing this system as yet ..but this

hasn't been extended to private sector clients as we would need to carry out

credit checks ..we are looking at these options and considering what can be

done. We have however tried with a couple of private sector clients

quarterly payments in advance ..which so far seems to be working adequately.
