I HAVE THE Opportunity for replacing my motherboard (MSI P35 Platinum)+ CPU (e7200) with A 3 month used ASUS ( RAMPAGE FORMULA X48)+ CPU Q9550 ver.C1

and i will pay 240 USD

I trust your judgment on things like that plz HELP!!!!!!!

That is ALOT of money for the upgrade, I wouldn't bother myself, save the pennies for something else than the motherboard, the MSI P35 is a decent chip and will probably clock your FSB1066 chip easily to 1500 which is probably the chips limit. The X48 also means you have to go for DDR3 I think which is not really a great investment

The X48 is merely a good-sounding upgrade over the 35, not practically worth it tho.

The cpu is a different story,

I believe its ddr2 and i can use my kingston HyperX 1066 (8GB)

with my current system i can reach 1970 FSB 4GHz speed

i intend to crossfire so that i need a replacment

Asus rampage formula is a decent board i think specially with a powerfull cpu and i think its more future proof than my current mobo and want to know if SUNBEAM Core-contact freezer is compatible with the board or should i buy a newewr cpu cooler

Am i will not feel any boost in performance ,sorry for my weak english

thanks in advance for helping

What speed is your E7200 running at at the moment? A good dual will be just as good or even better than a quad in games.

I'd say stick with this then. A quad will usually clock to 3.5 or 4.0 if you're lucky, which means lower or equal performance in games. Apart from folding I rarely fully use my i7 simply because most software lacks >1 core support.

i wanted to be more future proof, Is it much to pay? OR Should i wait for core I7? OR Is it an Opportunity to take the asus board and the Q9550? ,and i intend to keep this mobo for at least 18 months !

your advices is really important to me

As said, I'd stick with this. Unless you use effective (!= acad) render engines or other intensive quad applications, you're not going to see any real benefit. Keep in mind that quads are also hotter, giving your cooling more of a workout.

I think you should wait and upgrade to Core i7 when you can, as the Core i7s and DDR3 Tri Channel RAM can only go down in price, especially after the D0 stepping CPUs are released.

A 45nm Core 2 Duo @ 4GHz with a good graphics card and sufficient RAM is pretty much the sweetspot for games, value for money wise. Another vote to hang on to what you have. The proposition being offered to you is hardly something you'll kick yourself for if you turn it down.

With the prices of DDR3 steadily falling and the introduction of the new mainstream socket, I'm not so sure that as an existing user, whether it's worth investing any more money on the LGA775 platform. That is, unless your systems requirements currently mean that a fast Quad like the Q9550 would make a significant difference.

I echo Mul's views, it doesn't make sense to re-invest into socket 775 if you intend to use it for gaming. My advice would be differenct if you were doing intensive video/photo editing where such applications are usually multi-threaded.
