Very nie mate. what made you get the new one as well?

Tis nice looking but would have thought only suitable for a media rig?

Exactly Kemp, the X100 is going to be a multimedia/server station in my living room! The X100 is really small and totally silent so it was a perfect choice. Maybe in the future I will upgrade the CPU with a Core Duo or Merom...

I don't plan to do game on this one hehehe...

I just installed an additional 512Mb of RAM and can now have the benefit of dual channel memory!

So while I was at it I took a pic of the inside...

Also ran a few benchmarks...

Prime95 benchmark:

Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 420 @ 1.60GHz

CPU speed: 1600.00 MHz

CPU features: RDTSC, CMOV, Prefetch, MMX, SSE, SSE2

L1 cache size: 32 KB

L2 cache size: 1024 KB

L1 cache line size: 64 bytes

L2 cache line size: 64 bytes

TLBS: 128

Prime95 32-bit version 24.14, RdtscTiming=1

est time for 640K FFT length: 52.207 ms. (57.3)

Best time for 768K FFT length: 63.980 ms. (70.1)

Best time for 896K FFT length: 76.659 ms. (83.7)

Best time for 1024K FFT length: 84.638 ms. (96.6)

Best time for 1280K FFT length: 107.661 ms. (118.4)

Best time for 1536K FFT length: 131.520 ms. (144.5)

Best time for 1792K FFT length: 158.375 ms. (179.6)

Best time for 2048K FFT length: 175.820 ms. (199)

Best time for 2560K FFT length: 228.130 ms. (259.5)

Best time for 3072K FFT length: 278.068 ms. (311.3)

The value between (xxx) correspond to the reference for the same CPU found at http://www.mersenne.org/bench.htm

So it looks like the X100 is doing extremly good here!

SuperPI benchmark:

1M -> 42sec

S&M1.8.1 with 100% CPU load:

Time -> Temp HD/CPU

0 -> 45/52

3 -> 47/58

6 -> 48/56

9 -> 49/56

12 -> 50/56

15-> 52/56

18 -> 54/56

21 -> 54/58

Apparently the CPU is not going above 58C at full load while the idle temp is around 52C… and the fan stays almost totally silent!

3D mark 2005:

screen res. = 1024x768

score = 1714

I wonder if I should change the default thermal paste by AS5...
