Just got a HIS 6970(planning on getting another to xfire) in my new computer build(gonna post pics soon).

While running games and future mark 11 the card emits a high pitched frequency sound. This is known as "coil whine." Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce this sound?

Cheers

Are you positive its coming from the graphics card? And this is probably a dumb question, but do you have another power supply laying around that can handle your gpu? Sometimes its the psu, sometimes its the motherboard, or maybe even a vibration. If you can pinpoint the noise exactly...maybe roll up a piece of paper and use it as an ear piece type thing to try and find the noise...i've heard of people doing that before.

Have a look up there I edited my first post a little. Take the side panel off, im sure its off already, and stress it by putting it in a game. And try and pinpoint the sound exactly. I was also reading about and found someone who fixes coil whine or transformer whines with a coating of this.

I have no experience with it so thats all I can tell ya lol. Never even heard of it to be honest.

Sounds like ( no pun intended ) the GPU. you will probs find a few others especially the folders amongst us posting confirming this.

When the cards are fully loaded they do whine. My GTX280 used to and my 8800gt prior to that when under load from folding. what made it worse when folding the pitch of the whine when up and down. Eventually I got used to it.

As far as I'm aware - and i'm no expert - there's not a lot can be done about it.

Alright thanks for the feedback lads, im going to contact new egg tomorrow about the issue hope they dont slap me with a restocking fee.

ALL 6000 cards do it to one extent or another, if they did RMA it the one you would get in return will be the same. Just the way a lot of GPU's are matey.

Sadly you should have bought a 570 as that wont do it, you can join our folding team then too
