Hello experts,

New to the forum and hoping that i can get some advice here. I probably would have been able to look around a bit but I am kind of in a hurry. So as the title says I am looking at buying the RS360 kit to cool my i5 2500k which is running at 4.7GHz. Down here in Australia in the summer the other day i noticed it IDLING at 47 degrees which for me is too hot. So before I pop down to the localish store, I want to make sure I am getting everything and I wont have any problems because I get paranoid about my PC, every BSOD I nearly have a heart attack. So my local store is http://www.pccasegear.com/ and I dont really want to be going anywhere else because, I dont really know anywhere else. My list currently includes:

The kit- http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16616

3 fans- http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11128

The fans may go in a push pull with the ones with the kit or i may just use them. My questions still remain around coolant and tubing. I know I can use distilled water with maybe some red dye to match my HAF 932 Advance, but is there anything i should particularly look out for in the water or really look for. Secondly the tubing

this is what I have got to choose from because I heard that the tubing with the kit tends to kink a little so I want some tough stuff. I want a strong fit but I think 1/2" might not be enough and 3/8" might be too much, any ideas.

Lastly when i posted about this over at Avsim, I am a mad flight simmer, they mentioned something about silver kink coil or something, I am not really sure and dye clogging up the pump. What are your views on that?

Thanks so much,

Andrew

well first of all 1/2" tubing is bigger then 3/8"

secondly the difference of tubing size won't be noticable. but if you're gonna use the fitting that come with the kit, then just stick to 7/16" tubing since it has a nice tight fit. Now for the liquid, you can get distilled water but you have to add : anti-corrosive & anti-bacterial agents to that it doesn't ruin your blocks or grow algea. As for silver kill coil it is basically used to kill bacteria in the loop. You can always just by pre-mixed fuild and not worry about all that.

also if you have the haf 932 advance why not get the rx360 kit it'll fit even in push-pull in that case and it'll cool better.

Probably not going for the RX360 kit because it is not leaving as much money left for other stuff. So do you think the tubing coming with the kit would not be too bad after all or a 1/2" good quality one would be better. Do you know where I can get these anti bacterial and corrosive agents?

The store where you buy the wc-kit should have all things needed.

I would also buy some 45 and 90 degree fittings,to make the install easier and more tidy. Two fitting extenders on the rad is also handy.

the tubing that comes in the kit is good stuff I'm using it and have only experience one kink and that was today when I redid my loop in my new case. I have taken my loop apart several times not changing this or that and each time the tubing goes back on and seals without clamps. If you get the 1/2 inch tubing you will have to clamp it as its not tight enough to seal alone. I say get premixed stuff its good and you shouldnt have to add much if anything in the way of biocide or anti corrosion.

Ok so its not looking like I need any more tubing and for coolant i should go with a premixed. How much do you reckon I would need to fill the loop and to that would I be able to add some coloured coolant that wont clog up the pump.

If its just your cpu in the loop 1l should do, but its best to keep some coolant about as it always comes in handy I find.

I got 2 liters with my RX360 kit abd used about 1 and a third of it. So with the thinner rad you should be ok if you bought 2 as well.

yup just be patient when installing it all and measure 3 times and cut once. be sure to leak test it before powering the main board and perf. some suggest a 24hour leak test and its a good rule if you have never water cooled before. Good luck and post a build log when ur at it.

For the leak test is it ok to have it assembled in the case? I saw tinytom do it inside the case and he said it would be fine because there is no power going through the components so i am thinking it will be.

yeah i leak tested inside my case, just dont plug in the pci -e, eps or atx pins

Yep, got it. I think the kit comes with a little tool for jumping the PSU too.

yeah it does and its sweet to have lol used mine several times now . I keep it sitting just out of my lil ones reach on my desk so I always know where it is
