Xsessive? Maybe. Worth it? Hell yes!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, kiddies of all ages, shapes, sizes and species I present for your viewing pleasure a little something I put together from the inspiration, insight, and intelligence I gathered through the forums here at Overclock3D and from the helpful videos of TTL. Much appreciated and thanks to everyone for their help.

Specs:

Case: NZXT Phantom

Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth x58

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 4.2 ghz

RAM: Patriot Sector 7 1600mhz 6gb

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 480 @ 850mhz

For quiet and efficient cooling for these smoking hot chips I went with a mix and match bunch of liquid cooling equipment. The 480, NorthBridge, and Vreg are all cooled with the help of Koolance water blocks. Extremely happy with these products with high quality, great looks and superb cooling you cant go wrong with these. I also used the XSPC RASA 750 RS360 water cooling kit and added a Black Ice 120mm radiator on the back. I stripped down the case, painted it and made it my own. Plumbed everything with BitsPower compression fittings and some 3/8"ID 1/2"OD clear tubing, then quenched it with some Feser One. Stuff it full of hard drives and away we go!

The Goods!

Project Xsessive Build Log

Beautiful! And I thoroughly enjoyed the project log. Pornorific paintjob.

But I feel those bright screws do stand out too much; if you feel like it, black screws, or even oxidise them with a blow torch or gas stove/barbeque.

What will the Raven project be called?

WOW i actually really like this and im not even a huge fan of the NZXT phantoms any way but this looks really cool

well done

Brilliant mate! Cable management is outstanding, kudos.

Green and black is a great combo, neat tubing too. NICE!

Thank you all. I'm very happy you like it.

I actually like the contrast of the screws on the outside. Everything blends together too much without them.

I do have a name for the Raven build, but you will have to wait on that one

Still mostly in design stage right now. Parts will start showing up next week for it, then that one begins

If everything works out well it is going to be a most epic and sexy sex machine.

Looks great! Love the color contrast--green on black stands out like crazy.

Did you dremel those windows? Smoked acrylic? They look almost too perfect to be done by hand.

I did dremel the windows out, well jig-saw to cut the shape, but the small one over the fans took a long time with the dremel. I had acrylic dust and chips covering me, was fun though, and glad they turned out so well.

What CPU temps are you getting?

Nice build btw

Thanks

glad you like it.

With the CPU at 4.2ghz and the GPU at 850 mhz temps on both chips idle about 40C. Full load the the CPU is about 70-72C and the GPU is about 60-63C. Vast improvements over air/H50 that I tried before. I let the CPU get to 95C with the H50 before I shut it off and turned it back down and it idled at 52+. The GPU with the stock air cooler would idle at 61+ and under load would easily get to 90+. The NB chip was also very very warm. I had a small fan attached to the heatsink before to keep it below 60+ on idle. Under load it would get to 90+ easily. I have not seen the NB get over 50C with the water on it. All things considered I am very pleased with the outcome. If I could just get it stable at 4.5ghz...

this made me reconsider keeping my phantom... hmmm

I really liked mine, even before I did all the mods to it. There are two mods that I would recommend though. Remove the mesh from the side panels that dont have fans behind them and cover them with something solid. This seems to help with airflow.
