Xp3200+ recognition problems

i have just put a new Athlon XP3200+ barton processor in place of a pretty poor 2500+. Except on bootup it recognises it as a 2500+. So i cheked on Everest, i have the right (xp3200+) multiplier, the right L2 cache and CPU alias BUT it says its a xp2500+ running with a fsb of 167 x 11.

So natuarally the first thing i did was put the fsb up to 200, as it should be. restart the pc......nothing, no display not even a beep. What now... i took the battery out to reset the bios and started up again, worked fine, still didnt recognise the processor. So i set the RAM to autodetect (set by sdp) incase it was the different speeds, but alas, same thing happend, blank screen, no beep.

so NOW i get my motherboard manual and have a flick through, i find the page with the cpu frequency jumper layouts on it, set those...same thing happend again.

OK i thought, this is stupid, its my shit motherboard being tempremental, so i post on the optronix website (theyre a bunch of idiots) with no success. Finally i tried flashing the bios with AWDflash (award bios by the way) and it wouldnt let me, plain and simple wouldnt let me.

my ram is pc3200 and the motherboard is an optronix A36K6-FL7

PLEASE HELP ME

(my graphics cards locked bios stressed me out enough as it is)

as always, any help will be much appreciated

Hey mate did you check that your motherboard supports up to 200FSB?

Maybe your motherboard is too old to support the newer XP chips :(

It supports up to 199 (which is what i actually took it up to, i said 200 to save someone correcting me)

I suppose its possible, it just says 'supports AMD athlon, athlon XP and duron (dunno why it doesnt mention sempron)

Ill look into that. I just got an email from Ebuyer saying iv got a new motherboard on the way, so fingers crossed.

i have discovered the problem.......in a word, iv been conned. the 'xp3200+' is actually a barton xp2500+ with a 3200 sticker on. iv emailed ebuyer asking them to replace it, but theyre out of stock of all sktA processors. which means i have a useless motherboard aswell now. i think i might ask them to send me an AMD and motherboard that runs at the same level of performance.....

bastards

ok, maybe its not a fake, damn incorrect forums. Im not sure dammit! ill post a thread with a picture of it later, see if anyone with one can compare it to theirs and give a deffinate. im gonna try flashing the Motherboard, im not very optomistic.

update your BIOS lol, surprised nobody sugegsted this already.

your chip wasnt recognised until a later bios on most boards, update it and it may be fine.

Heres the pic, this is llwyds actual cpu.

all the Ls seem too be in order to me.

firstly, i tried CPU-Z, it said i had a xp2500+ but if you clock down AMDs, it changes the name (or at least i think it does) and secondly, the bios update to support the 3200+ was '1.2' mines come with '1.8' iv tried flashing it to 1.9, but its not a simple process, and the AMI 'how to' file makes no sense:

(iv missed 1 - 4 as its just how to make a DOS boot disc and stuff)

4. Extract the BIOS-archive that you have downloaded by double clicking to c:\test

5. Boot your system from a Win98 or WinME boot-floppy.

How to make boot floppy in case your don’t have it ready:

For Win9X, You can type [C:\ format a:/s] from the DOS prompt.

For WinMe, You can make a boot floppy from control panel--> add/remove program-->make boot floppy. Remove autoexec.bat & config.sys file if there's any.

For Win2000, there's no way to make boot floppy, so you have to either use Win9X or WinME boot floppy.

For WinXP, you can make a DOS boot disk. Go to Your Computer, right click drive A:, select Format, select copy system files.

7. When you get the A:\ prompt, type the following sequence:

C: <enter>

cd\test <enter>

C:\test> amifl827 BIOS file

(to save or not to save old BIOS is the user’s decision)

8. Reboot your system when prompted

Anyone able to make sence of the prompt list for me?

cheers

tried that to lol, didnt work. its fixed now tho, i found an AMI live update program, downloaded all the new drivers, bios, all sorts. and fiddled with the speeds untill its ran stable. Any idea why my 3d mark score has gone to what it was on my xp2500+?

Well looking at the picture of the processor it's definately a 3200+ and that's not a "fake" sticker.

Sounds like what you need is a new mobo :)

iv got one :D and its running lovely. You mean fully wipe it and reinstall windows? or just repair windows?

oh, also, either i cant get the drivers to work, or my onboard soundcard sucks balls...major balls. Any suggestions on drivers or soundcards?

oo, thats tasty, unfortunately, im 16 and unemployed lol. ill nose around for something a bit cheaper, my money atm is marked for a pack of matched kingston 512s (new Motherboard was the only sktA i could find with dual chanel :) ). cheers

you wont see a marekd improvement until u reformat your computer....due to wndwos being configured to your old chip
