Xilence Black Hawk [copper] or NH-D14

I have looked around at coolers and yes before you remind me i very well know of the D-14's cooling supremacy. Here's why i'm posting:

Good as it may be, noctua's monster takes up so much space i think i can JUST fit it into my case (have used ruler), and that means having to remove the 900rpm 20cm fan on the side, highest cfm in it's class of what i've seen. Soon as my replacement 5770 comes i'll be running crossfire again and would like to overclock the cards, not into the ground, but a fair bit.

If i remove the fan to accomodate the D-14, am i going to end up with some crispy cards?

Should i get the Black Hawk, which while not allowing as great an overclock on the cpu, will free up more air and allow me to keep the side fan and overclock the graphics cards more - or will it make no significant difference?

Is the Black Hawk good bearing in mind it's size?

I read a couple reviews on the Hawk. I think i could get about 3.7/ 3.8Ghz with it on my 1090t. Then boost my 5770s from 850/ 1200 to 900/ 1300 (these are targets ofc).

Or: get the D-14, with which i hope to achieve: 4.0 ~ 4.2Ghz and leave the 5770s at stock 850/ 1200?

Which combination of cpu + gpu speed so you think will achieve the highest fps in direct x 11 games?

CPU clocks will be CPU dependant tbh. 4ghz is a good clock for most 1090's. With AMD's never skimp on the cooler tbh.

Take measurements of the GPU temp then take a look at the GPU temps with the side fan off, note if the GPU temps change a lot or if its minor.

Okay but to keep it realistic i'll have to test that when the other one arrives, coz they run hotter together than alone. I don't want to overclock anyway till i have made sure the replacement gpu is in working order. Gonna have to do this one as it goes along i think
