Xeons vs Desktop in Gaming

What is the difference between the i7 4770k vs the Intel Xeon E3-1241 V3. Both have the same specs but the Xeon is $100 cheaper. will I see any less performance in games with the Xeon?

From what I understand, the instruction set inside the Xeon CPU is not the same as in the i7 as they are targeted at different markets. It still performs the same as the i7, but there might be a slight lag in some things, and speed boost in other things where the instruction set on chip differs, so it has to compute the things instead of just pulling it out.

The xeons perform exactly the same as the i7 counter part, I can only recommend the 1231v3 from my own experience.
As said before it doesnt have a gpu unless you get a version with a 5 at the end ex: 1245v3
and overclocking doesnt work either. But its much cheaper than a normal I7

The Core i series do feature a different instruction set from the Xeons afaik. You'll also see that even an i5 will outperform the Xeon in half the scenarios.

Adding to that, as said the Core i series chips have on-board graphics so you'll still be able to use the pc in case your GPU breaks or you're waiting for a new one to arrive. They can also be overclocked for even more of a performance gain.

Picked up a cheap E3 1230 V3 for my Linux rig, run it with a GTX 750Ti, this was an upgrade from an i3 4150. Run cool and quiet with a H55 in push pull. Does what l need and will easily cover my gaming needs in Linux/Windows as well as having some grunt for photo/Video editing if l need it.
