Xeon E5-2XXX

Hi Guys,

I'm aware that during 2012 Intel will release Ivy-Bridge processors for Xeon (E5-24XX).

Currently the highest spec E5 is the E5-2690 LGA2011 with 8 cores and 16 threads for 2.9GHz.

My question is, should I:

a) buy two of the E5-2690s or wait for the 24XXs to come out, which from what I read has a maximum of 2.3GHz.

wait and buy the new Ivy Xeons?

Looking forward to your advice and help

Cheers in advance!

With the release of the Ivy Xeon chips, the prices of the Sandy Xeons might drop, but I doubt they'd drop by much, so I'd just go for the current Xeons

Ivy Xeons will be next year and if you are talking Ivy they will be quad not hex or octo.

Ivy-E Xeons are 2013 too.

Ive actually got two 2687's here

Thats a looooooong, looooooong wait. As others have said, better to go with current Sandybrige 2011 xeons

, you'll get 6 and 8 core versions, where as Tom stated the Ivy xeons won't be available 6 or 8 cores.

Tom was talking about regular IB. The Ivy Xeons will have the 6 and 8 core variants
