x800 Problem - Monitor will not recognize video card if it is turned off during use.

I recently purchased a Radeon x800 256 mb AGP graphics card. I have a nforce2 mobo, 1 gig of ram, and a new Thermaltake 700 watt psu. Also have a Sceptre 20.1 in. widescreen monitor.

The problem is whenever I turn off my monitor or it goes idle and turns off, it will not come back to normal. I can turn it on but it will not recognize it is plugged in or something. I am always forced to reboot. I've tried unplugging it from both ends, moving the mouse around, pressing the keyboard. I've reinstalled the drivers, I've even reformatted and nothing helps.

If the monitor ever loses power while my computer is on it acts just as if I do not have it plugged into my video card. I'm connected via DVI.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Sean

Pop into your BIOS and check in the Power section, you should have several Wake ON ....... options, or at least something similar, make sure theyre all set appropriately. Also look for any more advanced USB detection options (for USB mice and KBs )

Also you could disable all the power saving and standby settings in windows and BIOS

i went into my bios and noticed the detection options were for PS/2 detection for mouse and keyboards, but my mouse and keyboard are both usb so it did not fix anything upon reboot.

i did however find a way just now to get my screen back. if i turn off my monitor, unplug it from the video card, plug it back in, and then turn my monitor back on, i don't have to reboot. this is the only way thus far i've been able to get my screen back.

i would say that it isn't a good idea to unplug your monitor from the graphics card when running as it can damage the card
