Hello!

I am wondering about the new X79 or 2011 socket motherboards. Are they backwards compatible with older CPU's or older sockets?

I am currently in love with this board: ASUS X79 Sabertooth TUF. But I can't afford a 2011 i7 processor yet. But will I be able to use my i5 2500k on this board?

NO

EDIT:

They are physically incompatible, having different numbers of pins. The LGA 1155, 1366 & 2011 refers to the actual number of pins on each CPU.

Thank you! Never thought of that before! Well, back to work. Need money for a 2011 cpu. Haha!

Kudos!

This is why Intel frustrates me. Its hard to stay with the latest up to date tech when you have to get a new MOBO every 4 months.
