X2 4800+

I guess I could go with the PC7077 which I have seen work with a 120.3 rad - that's only 8cm bigger than my p160. But you know, thinking about all this and realising that my mobile athlon and 6800GT work fine I might not bother this christmas. hmm. the wait bug seems to have set in again especially when 7800gtxes are only 24pixel pipe cards and the x1800xt is so disappointing. :'(

I know i don't particularly want to wait until socket M2. But justifying spending 3500+ on a new system that I don't particularly need is becoming hard. Hrrumph. sorry. Maybe I'll change my mind tomorrow :S

Anyway as far as it stands if I do buy something then it would be the storm sli system here, but with the namesake storm block, a lian-li PC7077 (maybe anodised, maybe not, but definitely modded to make the dual 80mm fans into 1x120mm). of course the pa120.3 rad instead of the he. Those new fast corsair 1GB dimms*2.

What do you guys think of the bayres solutions btw?

Surprisingly, I found something close to what I was looking for here:

http://www.emerz.de/public_html/case/case_pc7077.html

btw, bear with it as the links work, just not the thumbnails.

obviously not with hd cooling and maybe not with the thermotube and definitely not with any lights/flashing things.

I do like the grill on the front - not on the top as it looks too restrictive.

WELL, fookmi:

"AMD Socket M2:

A few sources are telling us that they have the new AMD socket "M2" CPUs up and running in test labs all over the world that hit in the 2.4 to 2.6GHz range. The new socket M2 is a 940-pin CPU that carries with it a new integrated DDR2-667 memory controller. First thoughts are that these CPUs seem to be very solid with their new DDR2 legs. Hopefully we will be able to report back to you on the overclockability of the new memory controllers and CPUs soon.

As it stands now, look for AMD's new socket M2 to make its debut in late January or February."

So either I buy one for christmas and get it in January or wait until feb. *sigh* here we go again.

Wicked, thanx for your help guys...

Im gonna go for the 4800+ X2 I think.

My setup should be good enough to get close to 3ghz (I hope), I have a AQZ 50z, Storm G4 and the HE120.3, also have a gtx in the loop on a Silverprop HL.

Thanx for the help guys... Mav, how do you find the CPU compared to your old beast the FX57 ?

CPU ordered... retail package for £500 exactely!

Cant wait to get the beast now!

It will be going into the system below:

DFI SLI-DR

7800GTX

Watercooling

74gb Raptor

X-Fi

All I want to know is, What do I have to do to make my system work properly with the X2? I've read about an AMD driver and something about a Windows Fix?

Do I need these programs and do I need to do anything else or get any other programs to get the most out of my system/cpu?

Thanx guys

right lads, it's taken a while but the 4800+ X2 is here... now what the hell should I be doing to get the bugger going.

Using a HE120.3, AQZ50 and storm G4 block so its pretty capable watercooling setup.

what vcore should I be looking at as a max? And what is best safe temps onthese CPU's?

Make sure you got the lastest BIOS, or at least a BIOS that suports the X2. Also install the AMD X2 driver.

As for temps, they will be higher than a single core, especially when you start pumping volts in.

I wouldn't go any higher than 1.6, but im not 100% sure.

I agree with Grov on the volts, dependent on temps of course. As for temps I'd say 50C max dual core load with that sort of loop.

Post back your results, you've a very nice rig there.
