X1950pro or 8600gt OC?

Just wondering.. which is best?

im really

at comparing so if you don't mind, could you help me a little. If your a fanboy of a manufacturer and dont know crap (like me) could you not contribute and only really tell me whats best if you know whats best. Thanks.

sorry if i sound a bit bossy, but i really need to order one soon. Also, i checked toms hardware and the graphs stated that the x1950 pro had about 600 more frames on average in all the games displayed there to the 8600gt oc.

since there is no real advantage of dx10 yet, and when there is both cards will be out dated, id go for the faster one. Looked at the ati 3850? id try and stretch to that

I totally agree. I have a budget, though. I think the x1950pro will do, will there be any difficulties changing from nvidia to ati based card?

I heard that it screws up your system and freezes :s

its never so simple :/

You just need to make sure you properly un-install all of the drivers from the old card when you switch brands, thats about it really

A good 450W `should` be ok, depends what other gear u have plugged into it also.

Should alright. Got a 7200rpm hd, 2gb reasonable ddr2 ram, and some random decent duel-core's.

Your really going to ignore the advice of everyone in the thread and get a last gen card?

The 3850 is only £10-20 (which is what stay out the pub 1 or 2 nights? nothing really) more than the cheapest X1950pro, and the performance gap would be more than justified.

It may be better but the pro isnt a crappy card. Graphics cards get updated all the time. economicaly, i get a card which plays the games that i can handle with the card, because its not just the gpu that needs updating. It would be costly ( seen as im underaged to get a job)

PLus i had to get other stuff so the pro seemed a good price for a reasonably good card. Not to mention it has double the performance than the 8600gt (256-bit) ps. i can't go over budget

Remember quality of quantity on your PSU. A 430w Coolermaster I have here will happily run a 320mb 8800gts, core2, 2gb ram, hard drives, etc.

However, dont be tempted in by cheap PSUs such as ebuyer value, Q-TEC, ColorsIT etc. They may say 500 600 or even 700w but in reality they are unstable pieces of unsafe junk
