Hey All,

Just spotted a cheap EVGA 8800gts 320mb Superclocked and wondered if it would be worth upgrading from my Sapphire X1900XTX 512mb.

Would I see a good increase in FPS even though it has a lower amount of memory, I game mostly at 1680 x 1050 so would the card be able to handle playing at that res.

Thanks alot, Sam

Quite a large improvement in terms of FPS going from the X1900XTX to the 320MB 8800 GTS. It's border-line on the resolution though, normally the suggestion seems to be when you hit 1680 x 1050 you move onto the 640MB versions or a 2900 XT due to more memory available for textures and higher AA settings.

The card is even a superclocked EVGA card which are really superb cards. I'd recommend it, plus you get a lifetime warranty and the ability to "step up" the card if you pay the difference, in case you wanted a GTX or a 640mb version at a later point.

The seller had 2 cards available and both have sold now, the deal was too good and I wasnt quick enough

That kind of deal its buy first ask questions later... You get enough protection from your bank/ebay to get the money back so I'd do it!

You do?

My dad bought a 42" plasma from ebay a while ago as he thought it was cheap, paid thru paypal, but we never got any money back. As soon as ebay were notified they just removed the listing and acted as if it never happened. Paypal wouldn't give any money back either.

The police got involved and we raised a fraud thing. I got the blokes name and address and gave it to the police and he was arrested. Was put into a young offenders thing as he had done it to loads of people. He was apparently 13, seemed more likely that someone over 18 put his name down so they wouldn't get sent down and also as the kid was only 13 he wouldn't do much time.

So you don't have enough protection. Especially where ebay & paypal are concerned.

The buyer had legit feedback (trust me I know a scammer I have been using ebay a long time) and the price did include VAT. Hence why they sold so quickly.

So did the bloke who ripped my dad off

Also I've seen and reported loads of scammers on ebay. Found loads trying sell PC/Mac stuff for half the retail price using hacked accounts (100% feedback accounts with 1000+ feedback).

edit: The buyer or the seller had legit feedback? :)

13 :/ that's crazy. When I was 13 I was playing football at the park and stuff! But yeah I've heard of people near that age involved in fraud. Guess they don't really get/understand that it is a really serious crime.

My X1900XTX just sold on ebay for a very good price so I have bought a BFG 8800GTS OC 320mb edition and I hope it arrives on Thursday.

Benchies to come ;)
