Well guys,

A while ago i had to send me old X850XT PE back for RMA cos it had problems with it and getting realy hot, well anyway i was given an X1800XL card as a replacement and it seems this card has had it.

This is wot i get when i scan for artifacts at default clocks...

Am i able to send this card back and see if i can get another..?

P.S forgot to say that this card has never been overclocked and its idle temp is around 60C and its load temp is around 72C

Bad HSF contact? I know reseating it will invalidate the warranty, but it looks like less than perfect attention to detail on their part.

Yep looks like the BGA has taken a beating due to overheating. I would definitely RMA it. It begs the question why you've had two cards go the same way - make sure your chassis cooling is up to scratch as well as your GPU/BGA cooling.

That card could be a faulty replacement as RMA's are not always replaced with new products but repaired RMA's :(

Does it only artifact with atitool ?,because artifact scanning on ati cards has been highly unreliable with recent atitool releases. Many users have reported similar artifacts at stock.

Thicky makes a good point - have you 3d marked it all to check for artifacts or even rhibdtibl (or what ever its called!). If it still does it RMA that sucka!

Yup I've heard the same, ATITool seems to error with x1800 cards that are working perfectly otherwise.

Hey

Sorry to go slighty off topic, but what brand was the X850XTPE and what kind of temperatures was it getting to? I ask because I have a Powercolor X850XT with an idle of 55c and a peak temperature of 115c... even with the fan at full speed and a 80mm fan blowing onto of the card.

Anyway, thanks.

If I remove the cooler, I lose my warrenty (right?)

Most of the time, the card hits the early 90's, but that still higher than I would like

Again, sorry for the hijack

Thats way too high, I'd contact the people you bought it off and enquire about getting it replaced.
