Hi all, I was just wondering if it was possible to build a x79 rig including windows 7 os and a blu-ray reader drive for about £1500 and if so what components would you use?

Blu-ray drive? tut.

Easy enough to do though, 3820, UD3, 8gb Mushkin, Corsair AX650, then dependent on needs, graphics card, hard drive/ssd and preferential case.

easily, depends what you need it for though, you could have it for something like a grand but if you want a CAD x79 machine then youll need atleast 5 grand, you see

The reason i asked my original question was after looking around for components for other builds i started to notice the price of some x79 bundles was so good that when it comes to the costs of some builds you might aswell just go x79 as you can see from the example below

Asus Intel Ultimate Bundle £679.99

(Includes P9X79 PRO Motherboard, Intel Core i7-3930K &16GB DDR3)

Corsair H100 CPU Cooler £78.99

2 X Noctua NF-F12 PWM £32.96

Silverstone Raven 3 £104.98

Corsair AX650 £104.98

Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black £89.98

Corsair 120GB Force Series 3 £86.98

LG Blu-ray Reader £47.98

Windows 7 Home Premium OEM 64bit £69.99

MSI GTX 670 965MHz 2GB OC £319.99

Delivery Costs £5.00

Sub Total £1621.83

With Discount of £105

Total £1516.83

That is an excellent build for 1500, very similar to the build I was putting together last month. X79 deals are very good right now. The motherboard CPU Ram combo is a bargain.

It depends on a bargain for what purpose though.

We talking gaming? Cause you can build an i5 twin gpu set up for 1200 that would be better...

That is a very good point you make about the i5 twin gpu setup but can it really be done for £1200 thou?

Here's what I was thinking - it's cutthroat and to the point. There's a bit spare for a case and admittedly I tend not to include the cost of the OS but here's what I meant.

Sure there is some tinkering to be done reference the size of ssd/hdd depending on what's needed and there is no cpu cooler (but overclocking isn't actually needed). Also doesn't include a blu-ray drive but all in all you could definitely do it for £1350 with everything you said.

Not sure why the 670 cost different amounts lol - i added the same item twice...

670 is a damn fine 2nd tier card. For £1500 and playing games, the 1st item on the list has to be the best single gpu. Not the best one for the money, imo as a builder for other people.

We're obviously not looking at benching scores, but real world gaming performance. And in that sense you could put a (cringes for a moment) dual gpu setup together that could play games better and spend pennies on the rest of the items. - this is the other extreme.

Too many unanswered questions as to what the buyer wants. £1500 is a lot to most people to spend on one rig, and for those that it isn't, the questions don't need to be asked - you just buy the best of everything and go well beyond £1500.

I some how payed at least double that for the x79 system I just bought and i bet no one would even be able to tell the difference between mine and the suggestions here.

That's the problem with the PC market these days - you don't actually get what you need.
